Lin replied to the topic What are the 2 (or 3) biggest stakes in your story? in the forum Topic of the Week 4 years, 8 months ago
@kathleenramm I’m gonna use the current arc of Thirteen Ways since the stakes are the clearest. Basic premise: they need to gather ingredients for a spell to vanquish a demon. If they don’t, then some friends and family are lost forever to the demon.
In order to collect the ingredients, they must defeat the guardians of some of the ingredients.…[Read more]

Oooo, I love Keziah already!!! I guess one thing about her that would make people (yours truly especially… 😛 ) LOVE her is to make her tug at your readers’ heartstrings and make her relatable. Make her a mirror in which, perhaps, from time to time, they see someone who is all too familiar. (The desire for revenge, brooding, and…[Read more]

Oooo, CONGRATS!!! How exciting! XD
I do not have a blog at the moment, but from a reader’s perspective, I know my favorite articles are ones about the writer’s (or other writers’) book(s), whether that be memes, behind-the-scenes peeks, extra scenes, cover reveals, etc. I especially love fun stuff about the book (Covers, memes,…[Read more]

Ah, Danek… I could likely rant for hours about him, poor fellow. He’s a villain… of sorts. (It’s hard to explain without spoiling books 1 and 2.) But anyway, basically, he just wants someone to love him, but, unfortunately, it seems fairly impossible. His mother is dead; his father was emotionally crippled by her death and isn’t a…[Read more]

Lin replied to the topic Have you ever pantsed a novel? in the forum Plotting 4 years, 8 months ago
@kathleenramm Good luck on your story! Yes, now I think I want to incorporate at least one delivery boy henchman into a future story. I love it when henchmen have distinct personalities and appearances. Makes the story much more fun.

yes, poor Colin. It also shows how critically important parents are; if you don’t teach your child to be confident and a little independent, they literally cannot do things for themselves. And yes, he’s not a character I want to relate to but I can and it is encouraging to see his transformation!
as for my writing style… it was…[Read more]

@abigail-m Sorry this took so long. I’ll answer your questions now.
how likable are the characters?
Very likeable! I do like the three that you introduced here.
If you had to eliminate all but one character, what one would you keep and why?
I’d keep Anton because I’m a sucker for minor characters. But seriously, I wouldn’t eliminate any of…[Read more]

Lin replied to the topic Have you ever pantsed a novel? in the forum Plotting 4 years, 8 months ago
@kathleenramm I fully pantsed some works some months ago. It was terrifying. Like, usually I have no idea where things are going when I’m writing, but at least I have an outline as a roadmap. No, for this I had one sheet of paper covered with characters I wanted to be in it, and then another page for me to jot down ideas as I wrote.
And…[Read more]

“Thorne, we came to talk.” Lyn called out, standing on her tiptoes, as if that would help her voice carry. A muffled reply proceeded from the back. She groaned, walking to the entrance of the other room and mot…

@kathleenramm Yes Tolkien was an amazing author! My inspiration for writing style is partly from him but less ‘fancy wording’ if you get what I mean XD simpler English.
Aww yes Colin is such a good character for a positive character arc. His character lie is big, isn’t it? I suppose he’s very relatable; he may be a brat to begin with and a…[Read more]

@joy-caroline well I’d suggest giving moments showing her praying and asking God to help her with forgiveness, and showing her conflict with her anger and her want to obey God’s will of forgiveness. Show her earnest desire to follow God’s word I suppose; show the moments of love she gives others when she has the chance, but then her unsurity of…[Read more]
