(Tetsuya Nomura wrote something comprehensible for once),

I love the highly specific insults happening on this forum thread. ‘Tis a thing of beauty. (Also hi Kads!!)

@whalekeeper *raises hand* I’ve never been published, and haven’t completed a book since circa 2015, and I’ve had an article featured on KO multiple times. You should totally submit one!!

@power Unfortunately I’ve been sick this week, so all inspiration was absolutely banished. *weeps* I shall always remember this glorious contest though! Please tag me if you ever host another!

@joy-calle Hey Joy! Welcome back!! Love the new pen name—it certainly suits you!

Your WIP sounds so cool!! I’m super pumped to hear more about it. Also, if you don’t mind me asking, where or what do you do for work?

@mineralizedwritings Hey, I know you don’t know me very well, but I just wanted you to know that I read your post and am thinking/praying for you. Family stuff is super weird and hard and scary—I think it’s super brave of you to post about it. I don’t know the exact details of your situation, but I can promise that it’s not your fault or responsibility to fix, and things will get better. You aren’t alone, and you will never be alone. It’s going to be okay <3

@power This is honestly the best contest I’ve ever seen in all my years on the internet. And I’m OLD. (If inspiration strikes me, I shall try my very best to participate.)

@elishevet-pigeon I have literally nothing to help you out with (other than suggesting Fantasy Aloe Vera™️ but idk how much that would help) but my empathy for these poor charries is through the roof 😭 I hope their lives improve after such traumatic injuries!!

@kathleenramm You don’t know how tempted I was to be like: “these articles are the BEST I love all of them they’re all perfect :)” and then just link to all the ones I wrote when I was an intern. 😛

But seriously, I tend to just enjoy whatever the blog puts out. (I’m going to echo @gwyndalf-the-wise’s enjoyment of the movie examples). I suppose I’m drawn to character-related articles? Less big-picture stuff and more detailed instead?

Super excited for whatever the future of KP has in store!! 🙂

@devastate-lasting Eyyy, long time no see! I’ve also been pretty absent from the forum the past *checks watch* year I guess, so I’m in a similar boat as you, lol. Good to see you around again! How’s life?

@keilah-h They never really do explain the science, do they? I would definitely have appreciated more of an explanation—no wonder poor Sophie is so confused by it all! Plus, the whole “unmapped stars” business…doesn’t seem very scientifically accurate, no?

@whalekeeper I read through the series in, like, two weeks? Over a year ago? So my memory is a little fuzzy 😛

Overall, I would give series was a solid B+. Like, there were things that irked me (for instance, some of the humor felt…off. Like, Sophie’s supposed to be saving the world and struggling through all these things, and the next page is a bunch of gross-out humor. Which isn’t bad or wrong or anything, just…really not my thing) and yeah, Foxfire gave me definite Hogwarts vibes (but without the coziness??). But the character dynamics are what kept me reading, and I suspect that’s what keeps a lot of people so deeply in the KOTLC fandom. For instance, I usually am frustrated by or, at the very least, Couldn’t Care Less about love triangles, but am Very Invested in seeing which boy Sophie picks. (It looks like she’s picking the Correct Boy™️, which is super exciting.) I didn’t see a toooon of similarities between Tolkien’s elves and Messenger’s elves personally? Like, I totally get your points—I just went through a very intense Tolkien Elf Phase when I was younger and the vibes feel different enough to me so that they each still feel unique. Does that make any sense? (Though lol, you made me frantically Google “are elves vegetarian” because somehow I wrote a 20+ page paper on LOTR and missed that fact. Oops.)

@starofthenorth So I studied English in college, so, uh, there’s a lot of “worst books” I’ve read. 😬  But I’m not going to tear those apart here, since 1. I can’t remember most of them, 2. They’re pretty obscure, and 3. I did enough of that in school, lol!

Anyway! I’m probably going to offend a lot of my fellow Keepers when I say this, but  two books that I found disappointing (though far from the worst) were The Green Ember and Ember Falls. I heard them hyped up so much (both here and…pretty much everywhere else) and I just…didn’t like them. I couldn’t get attached to the characters (except for Smalls and…Picket’s sister, kind of. I cannot remember her name and am too lazy to look it up), the plot felt pretty…I don’t know what the right word is. Flat, maybe? But it wasn’t bad??Honestly, I just didn’t like The Vibe; it felt like the Redwall series without the coziness; it just felt a little bleak by the time I started on book three. I just don’t think that sub-genre of stories are my thing, which isn’t the books’ fault, lol! Anyway, maybe one day I’ll pick up the rest of the series; I did like the writing style, I just couldn’t get in to the rest of it.

@keilah-h I think it’s super awesome that you write fanfiction!! The world definitely could use more quality fan works in it—they’re so much fun, and I admire the people who can write them (like you!) I also think that’s super neat that you’re writing from your own experience/frustrations. I don’t have autism, but I have a brother who does, and find myself echoing some of those same frustrations. One of the characters in my current WIP has autism, and I I’m trying my best to do him justice!

@arien Whoa, sounds like you have a lot of book-loving people in your family!!! I can only imagine the family reunions… *jealous sigh*

Heh, I think I talked about that story in a different thread—basically it’s about a girl who suddenly inherits a kingdom (and a MASSIVE debt from the previous rulers), and has to go on a quest to plunder a dragon’s hoard. It had a handful of Western elements (like, the book opened with a train exploding; there was a vaguely magical, vaguely Texan desert; one character had dueling pistols), but I eventually changed it because it just didn’t fit The Vibe I had in my head for that story. It was fun while it lasted though!

@sarafini Oooh that sounds fun!! I’ve heard my brother mention it but I’ve never been super clear on how it works. Do you need to sign up for anything, or could one do it through Kingdom Pen?
