Elishavet Elroi replied to the topic What come to you first? Plot or Characters? in the forum Topic of the Week 2 years, 9 months ago
Characters.
Usually I think of a character in a setting, with a bit of their backstory. That backstory and setting then point to what may happen/ what the plot will be.
However, they don’t always communicate perfectly, so I often end up with only a vauge idea about what the plot actually is.
I used to say that all my books were…[Read more]

Elishavet Elroi replied to the topic Some questions about characters in the forum Characters 2 years, 9 months ago
This topic is phenomenal! Now I’m itching to answer those questions.
Because crazy questions are some of the best kinds there are…
A character that I don’t like but I don’t hate.
Rabadash is horrible, but also Ridiculous. For that I can despise him as a person, but enjoy him as a character. There are most likely a bunch of these,…[Read more]

Yes!! That would be fun.
Those are some very interesting lines. Scarlet sounds like quite the character.
Those lines are hilarious. They capture a child’s active mind so we’ll.
And please, cringy is understood. I can’t make myself read the entire three chapters from my first novel idea… And t…[Read more]

Elishavet Elroi replied to the topic Developing A New Story Idea! (Help? XD) in the forum General Writing Discussions 2 years, 9 months ago
I hoped they’d be good questions. 😉
That makes sense. I like how it’s the talents/characteristics of animals. The way you explained it sounds like there’s a moral hidden in it…. now I’m even more curious. 🙂
Good literature is great for inspiration, and in all honesty, Artham inspired the super protective Mountain Guardian…[Read more]

Wow. That sounds like some story idea!
I can’t say that I’m very great at planning out/development, even though it is one of my favorite parts. But…
I love your idea for the protagonist. What is his knee-jerk reaction to learning about his capabilities? Does he realize he is rebellious? Why does he want to lead? Is he actually…[Read more]

I think this is my latest reply on record. 😬 Sorry. I have excuses, but let’s not make this reply any more delayed.
To the reply…
G. K. Chesterton’s essays are pretty good, and I’d definitely recommend them. You know his style if writing from The Man Who Was Thursday (our father read part of that to my siblings and I years…[Read more]

Welcome!
Oh dear. XD I was referring to my astounding ability to run myself into corners on blogs/websites from which not even the back button can save me. XD
I didn’t get lost in yours, so that was greatly appreciated. 🙂

Ok, that makes a lot of sense (I was not a little suspicious.). It’s beautiful, especially the ending.
Meter is often tricky, but you worked it in so well. Have fun with it!

OoooOooOoo, I like it! It sounds so ominously absurd, if that makes sense. (The phrases “clown” and “spotlight” aren’t exactly expected) It reminds me of a character from a play my sister and I started to write (now we realize it’s more of a novel and less of a play, but oh well. XD) who says some profound things in a very cryptic…[Read more]

It looks really good! I greatly appreciate that it is somewhat difficult to get stuck somewhere without a way to get back. The colors work together very well too. Congratulations and celebration!

Ah, I think they are just as bad but in different ways. At least, they’re both ruthlessly cold-hearted.
Although, Garten is operating out of ambition and bitterness fueled by overpowering fear, while Bonifer just has the ambition and bitterness. So maybe Garten is less outrightly selfish? Both of them are blinded by similar…[Read more]

Aren’t they? 🙂 Yeah, the Badlands are amazing.
Those places sound soooooo pretty. I love looking down on a forest, especially when it’s very lush or colorful.
I’ve heard about Glacier National park but never been. Once our family hiked Multnomah Falls in Washington, and since we hadn’t thought to bring any water, (not the most…[Read more]

I mean when one makes up a scenario using characters from a book in one’s head. It could be as simple as a character sketch, or as complicated as a serial novela. For example, say I made up a story about Oskar coming across a book that lead into another world, say middle-earth, but I never wrote it (maybe I never even told it to…[Read more]

Really? Me too. (Okay, okay, 😉 )
That is difficult to answer.
My family has traveled all over the U. S., so I’ve seen some absolutely breathtaking places, and they’re all that way for different reasons.

Yeah, it was more like the sacrifice mirrors Jesus’, and Jammer mirrors mirroring that. (And why not agree in the most confusing way possible. 🙄😁)
I will echo your own words: WHY WOULD YOU KILL HER? XD
Bonifer Squoon or Maraly’s father, Weaver.
But Bonifer is a pretty complicated villain, so I have to give him…

And I may or may not have skipped through the entire book just to see how a couple of favorite characters escaped a dark place and whether they used the key they had been given in life. (Pauses to read over that and enjoy it’s pointed vagueness.) And I may or may not have only skim read the book entirely. If so, I really need to go back…[Read more]

Awwww, thank you!
I’m so, so, SO glad you liked it. Scenes like that can be hard to do right, (and we sure didn’t get it perfect) but they’re loads of fun to write. Plus, it makes it all the more exciting when others enjoy them too.
Go on and write more! I’m sure they’ll be beautiful in their own unique ways.
