@kathleenramm About five or six years ago I started writing it. Stories, hmm…maybe it’s been a decade. It’s been a long time, ha…

@kathleenramm This is actually the sequel of a sequel of a spinoff for my original idea for Thirteen Ways, ha… It started out with me wanting to make a world where I could escape to, and gradually I just added on, and on, and on… And now, thankfully, I’ve run out of ideas for it.

Lin replied to the topic What are the 2 (or 3) biggest stakes in your story? in the forum Topic of the Week 5 years ago
@kathleenramm I’m gonna use the current arc of Thirteen Ways since the stakes are the clearest. Basic premise: they need to gather ingredients for a spell to vanquish a demon. If they don’t, then some friends and family are lost forever to the demon.
In order to collect the ingredients, they must defeat the guardians of some of the ingredients.…[Read more]

Lin replied to the topic Have you ever pantsed a novel? in the forum Plotting 5 years, 1 month ago
@kathleenramm Good luck on your story! Yes, now I think I want to incorporate at least one delivery boy henchman into a future story. I love it when henchmen have distinct personalities and appearances. Makes the story much more fun.

@abigail-m Sorry this took so long. I’ll answer your questions now.
how likable are the characters?
Very likeable! I do like the three that you introduced here.
If you had to eliminate all but one character, what one would you keep and why?
I’d keep Anton because I’m a sucker for minor characters. But seriously, I wouldn’t eliminate any of…[Read more]

Lin replied to the topic Have you ever pantsed a novel? in the forum Plotting 5 years, 1 month ago
@kathleenramm I fully pantsed some works some months ago. It was terrifying. Like, usually I have no idea where things are going when I’m writing, but at least I have an outline as a roadmap. No, for this I had one sheet of paper covered with characters I wanted to be in it, and then another page for me to jot down ideas as I wrote.
And…[Read more]

Lin replied to the topic Writing a conflicted character while getting readers to root for her? in the forum Characters 5 years, 1 month ago
@joy-caroline As someone who generally likes antagonistic characters I like her a lot already! Kind of reminds me of Caleb Trask, one of my favorite characters in all of literature, who is supposed to symbolize Cain. I think as long as you portray all of your above ramble clearly, then you should have no problem getting your readers to like her!…[Read more]

@godlyfantasy12 I don’t really have much to say, but I have a couple of movies to suggest for @gracie-j .
1) Knives Out. It’s a murder mystery that came out recently, I’d give it a strong PG-13 for language and stuff, but I really enjoyed watching it.
2)Â Batman Begins. Mm yes this one doesn’t have that much of a transition but it’s pretty g…[Read more]

Lin replied to the topic What's the most recent book you've finished? in the forum Topic of the Week 5 years, 1 month ago
@kathleenramm I’ve read other Star Wars books; mainly movie adaptions. There’s this one adaption of The Attack of the Clones that I really liked as a kid.

Lin replied to the topic What's the most recent book you've finished? in the forum Topic of the Week 5 years, 1 month ago
@kathleenramm I know you said most recent, but looking at my books, I’m going to go with the third most recent book I read, Lost Stars by Claudia Gray.
It’s a Star Wars book I bought ages ago but never got around to. Glad I finally did, though. I liked how it was slightly cleaner than most YA out there. I did not like how I failed to see that…[Read more]

@maryg3 I just meant like planning out blog posts ahead of time, writing them ahead of time, etc. It’s always easier to be on top of that and knowing what content you’re going to publish on your blog ahead of time than scrambling for ideas lol. I don’t know if Wix has this feature, but with WordPress it’s nice to be able to write and schedule…[Read more]

That’s so exciting, @maryg3! I’d recommend figuring out who your target audience is, and writing on topics that interest them. I definitely think it’s important to have a home page, blog page, contact, and about page at least. I also recommend doing some branding work, like figuring out your blog’s mission, target audience, plan content, and also…[Read more]

@writerlexi1216 *stretches* Hngh…right now I’m currently serialising one of my works (finally!) and now I’m working on the backlog for something else for Crazy Writing Week… Also working on a short story but at the same time I kind of want to write something else…I don’t know what though. Oh, and Thirteen Ways, of course. For once I’m on schedule.

@precious-y I would say my villain is a central character, though right now I have the POVs of the villain, the hero, and the villain’s friend. There’s a lot more characters than I anticipated, ha… Maybe this will be longer.
Hmm….villain character development… Kingdom Pen has a lot of great articles on them! Since your characters are…[Read more]

Lin replied to the topic Hello there! in the forum Start HERE 5 years, 1 month ago
@zatara Oh, I like beginning and ending stories. When I start a story, I almost never know where it’s going to go, except with maybe a mental image of the end, and when I end it, it feels so bittersweet, like I’m saying goodbye to a friend.
