I actually don’t write out of chronological order. I kind of have to follow the story from beginning to end, because I feel like I maintain the natural progression/momentum of the story better that way. Then I go back and edit however much I want, and that’s when I jump from scene to scene out of chronological order. I’m also a bit…[Read more]

I totally feel this struggle. I have rewritten so many chapters, especially opening ones, because I’m almost never satisfied with chapters that I’ve written. Opening ones can be so difficult because you’re juggling introducing the book’s themes, characters, and conflicts all at once in a way that’s memorable, satisfying, and intri…[Read more]

That premise sounds interesting! I’m definitely leaning toward the resistance saying no to Torrent, I feel like that would make her have to come up with her own solutions, which would be interesting to read about.
True, villains and antagonists don’t always need to be in a story. I’m usually writing some kind of story where they’re like, far away, so they don’t always show up in the main story (you know, like a Sauron kinda thing), so I always feel like I have to find ways to have them interact with the protagonist.

@kathleenramm I’m working on a short story by myself right now. I’m thinking it might just be one POV, but it might require me to write two. I’ve been practicing one POV for a while now so I hope I’ll be able to accomplish it effectively XD

@elfwing Oh cool! That’s so interesting that you do that too! It does work really well when you need…[Read more]
