Nice job on your chapter two! (I’m super invested now, by the way. I’d totally already be on chapter fifteen if this was published. XD)
Okay, a couple of things that are jumping out at me on my first read-through…
- I think you could use a bit more battle description. Maybe I got lost somewhere, but exactly what started this…

Hi @ancello!
Here are some of my favorite series….
- Viking Quest by Lois W. Johnson. This one is about a brother and sister who get captured by Vikings and convert them to Christianity eventually. They’re great!
- Redwall by Brian Jacques (MY ALL TIME FAVORITE) Pure simple awesomeness. Nuff said. Read it and then tag me with your thoughts if…

Thank you for recalling that! I forgot to mention in my first post that there would be diary entries in first person. I’m mostly just trying to decide if the first person should carry all the way through, but thanks for the input! I’m leaning more toward 3rd person too, but I definitely think I’ll keep the entries so that readers can g…[Read more]

Hi!
I’m working on my Revolutionary War WIP (I previously posted it if anyone wants a refresher of what it’s about. Check the Idea Poll post from a couple months ago ;)) I’ve started writing it in 3rd person, but I wondered if I should do 1st person. I know all of you don’t write historical fiction, but do you/would you prefer 1st or 3rd person…[Read more]

This is great!! It hits close to home for me; as a nursing student, almost all of my fantasy/sci-fi characters are medics and healers. (I know, I know, strange mashup of reality and fantasy 🙂
First off, I loved your characters and explanations of races/kinds. Everything made sense to me in that regard. Plus, I’m a sucker for…[Read more]

Hey there 😉
I just released my WIP to a select group of friends, and they have given me a lot of feedback about what they like to see in characters, so maybe some of this will be helpful…
- Characters that break stereotypes. (Example–my friend LOVED a character who I totally did not expect to be well-liked. He’s a…

I like novellas too! I’ve finished two novellas and a novel, so I’m not exactly sure which are my favorite.
I think you have good sense on the sequel debate. I, for one, love sequels, but I really hate BAD sequels, if you know what I mean. Sometimes, you’ve really said everything you need to say about certain characters, and the…[Read more]

Hi @esther-c!
I’m a little late to this conversation, but I just came to chime in on titles names. I’m a collegiate Latin student who studies a good bit of ancient languages. Like Jayna Baas mentioned, the old languages might feel too strange in a dystopian setting, but here are some options for you…

Hello @kyronthearcanin!
I’m Landri, and I’m a homeschool graduate in nursing school right now 😉 I write and read fantasy! I also enjoy historical fiction and medical history/fiction (hence my chosen career.) I’ve written a WIP with my co-writer, who you can also find on KP.
Questions!
1. Do you prefer novels or short stories?
2. How many…[Read more]

Herbs that help burns include: calendula, comfrey, lavender, or wild plantain (depending on where they are in the world and climate 😉
Also, here’s a recipe for a simple burn salve that might give you some ideas:
1 cup organic extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons organic comfrey leaf
2 tablespoons organic calendula flowers
2 t…[Read more] -

Hi @elishavet-pidyon!
It really depends on what you want. If you don’t want his facial expressions messed up, you can just do a scar somewhere along his cheekbone. However, if the burn covers more than a few inches, it will probably heal in a puckered fashion, making his facial expressions difficult on this side.
Honey and water is good. Herbs m…[Read more] -

So neat! My dream career is also to be a stay-at-home mom with a large family! Nursing is my career until then. It’s kinda hard to be a mom with kids when you don’t have a husband yet! 😉
I have yet to read Harry Potter, but I’m reading Anne of Green Gables for the first time right now! I just finished Anne of Avonlea and I’m starting…[Read more]

Hello, @acancello!!
My name is Landri, and I’m new around here too. I’m a college nursing  student working on a fantasy/fiction WIP with my best friend and co-writer, @elizabeth-hearten. (She’s also an actress!)  I was a homeschool graduate, too, and it’s served me really well in college so far 😉Question time! (Apologizes for any repeats!)…[Read more]

Okay, so my plan for this is to have mostly third person, with just a few journal entries from my protagonist for this story. See what you think of this (rough draft) beginning! I’ll tag those of you who commented on it. 😉 Also, name suggestions are welcome!

Wow @felicity!!
What you have so far is stunning! Like some others on here, I don’t usually read contemporary fiction, but this has really caught my eye and I hope you’ll post more!! I would read this as a novel in a heartbeat.
My only caution would be this: make sure you’re relatively clear with readers what position the War is in. You’ve done…[Read more]

Hi @folith-feolin~
First off, hope you’re feeling better! I had COVID before Christmas and it was not fun at all, as I’m sure you’ve learned 😉 Hope it hasn’t been too bad. Like @felicity said, at least you got some good inspiration!
Second, I’m not usually a thriller reader either, but you’ve intrigued me with your concept. Are you going with…[Read more]
