Oh my goodness it’s been ages since I’ve been on here (yes you were right. been busy with college prep actually :0) and I randomly popped on today to find this!! Thanks for the tag! I love reading your writing! <3 My favorite part of this scene is Lesli treating Tauren like a kid and him calling her “mom” lol. 🙂 Keep up the good work!

Thx for the tag! Hehe yes I’m still alive, as you well know. 😉
That snippet tho…brutal. I like how you’re portraying their relationship realistically because it really is like that sometimes.

@freedomwriter76 Thanks for the tag hehe! <3
Oh my goodness I love Ezra’s moodboard!!!! The momma quote is so good *cri*

I am so happy for you!!!!!!!! That is amazing!! I can’t wait to see what the future holds for your book! <3

Indeed research for Historical Fiction is tedious. It’s so worth it though. I’ve been reading the Zion Covenant series by Body Thoene and they are beautifully written and extremely accurate. I think some people use them as History books. 😉 I want to write like that.
(Thanks for the disclaimer 😄). That’s a good tip though! It’s hard for me to change as a writer. Once I’ve written a plot point I tend to want to stick to it pretty hard, even if the story would be better without it or with something else in it’s place. Thank you for the advice. I will certainly keep that in mind.
I don’t really have any tips since I’m very much a beginner at this. 🙂 I don’t have any personal romantic experience to go off of, but some of my older siblings do, so I run things by them sometimes to make sure I’m being realistic.
You’re very welcome to ask about my WIP! It’s about a girl named Marian Andrews who is trying to figure out what she wants to do with her life. She’s scared of growing up, especially since a lot of young people around her are ruining their lives before their twentieth birthdays. When she falls in love with an out-spoken Christian, she can’t understand why he’s so passionate about his faith. Through the ups and downs that follow Marian finds not only true love but the love of Jesus as well. And because she finds Jesus, she realizes that she doesn’t have to be afraid of adulthood.
What’s your WIP about?

Yes, misbehaving ovens are tough to deal with. Thankfully ours has been pretty good lately. *pats oven kindly* 🙂
I love writing and reading Historical Fiction!! It takes me a lot longer to write though because of all the research. I have yet to finish a Hisfic project but I have a couple started. My current project is YA contemporary romance. So yes, I do include romance. I didn’t use to, but it crept into my writing and I’ve fully embraced it by now. (pun intended. 😄)
How long have you been writing romantic plots or sub-plots and do you have any tips? Because I’m afraid I’m not very good at it.

Hmm…I don’t remember a certain instance but it seems I always have trouble making sure things are cooked properly. Our oven is finicky. Stuff looks like it’s cooked and then when I cut it open it’s squishy. 🙁
What genres do you write?

Wuzetka sounds delicious! I’ve always considered baking fun, and cooking necessary. (But I could blame this entirely on my sweet tooth.😉) I’ve never explored a particular cuisine. Is it difficult to find the ingredients you need?
(I have a sweet tooth too…good to know I’m not the only one who is tempted by sugar.) Sometimes it is harder to find things like bulk poppy seeds and white sausage and rose hip jam, (all three are things I’ve haven’t found around where I live) but I usually just substitute it for something similar. (or not make the recipe at all).
I love talking about cooking/baking so if you ever want to chat more, just tag me! 🙂
Hope to see you around!

That is so…heartbreaking! I don’t even want to think about all the poor characters that I once created but will never write again.
Just because the stories are so lame….
or I’ve forgotten what was going to happen next.
I have a whole three-ringed binder FULL of old stories I probably won’t ever finish.
All those poor, trapped characters… *sob*

Such a good idea, though! 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration!

I’ve made a few Polish dishes like pirogi, keilbasa and kapusta (sauerkraut) and I want to try more, but my favorite so far is a dessert called wuzetka. Basically it’s a chocolate cake with a thick layer of whipped cream in the middle. It’s eaten cold, which makes it a lovely summer treat! Do you enjoy cooking/baking? And do you have a favorite cuisine?
I have to admit gardening makes me humming-happy as well. (That’s a sweet term. Did you make it up?) That’s too bad about the potted plant! I’ve had many a gardening mishap as well, but I just tell myself that it’ll help me not make the same mistake next time. (hopefully).
Do you ever incorporate the skills you’ve learned from homesteading in what you write?
Yes, somewhat. However, I like writing historical fiction, so a lot of my characters do some form of homesteading on their own. Meaning, they have way more skills than I have, and I could learn a lot from them! Flipping your question slightly, homesteading has helped me write about things more realistically. For instance, since I’ve washed clothes by hand before, I know that it’s very likely you’ll get blisters on your knuckles, so I’ll write that into a story.
The modern Little Women also goes by the name Little Women, but it was made in 2018 and stars Sarah Davenport as Jo. It was refreshingly relatable because the March sisters are homeschooled.❤️Movies are rarely ever about homeschoolers, especially portraying them in a sympathetic light. And Jo’s trying to get published in modern times, so that added an extra element of interest. It’s not as beautiful and deep as the miniseries, but my sister, Mom, and I still enjoyed it.😊
Oh wow, now I’m really interested! Thanks for the recommendation!

Anybody want to sprint for a bit? No problem if you can’t, I just thought I’d ask.
I had a random idea for a random WIP so I decided to do a random sprint.*didn’t just randomly use that word three times*

I humbly bow to your ability to learn new languages! I’ve been part of several different Spanish classes, and though I adored the missionaries who taught them, I couldn’t catch on to the language for the life of me.
It was brave of you to try, even if it was hard.
What inspired you to learn Polish?
Good question! I have some Polish ancestors and have been fascinated by the culture and cuisine. I’d like to visit there someday, and knew it would be helpful to know the language. Then I started learning, and absolutely loved it. For some reason it clicked like French hadn’t (I did French for a while).
What’s your favorite part of homesteading?
Gardening, definitely. I love the whole process of seed to harvest and knowing where my food came from. Do you do any gardening?
I love all of the time periods you listed!😊 Regency is my preferred historical period to write in, but I love reading them all. Especially stories set in WW2.
Nice! It is so hard to pick an absolute favorite, you know? 🙂
You watched the 2017 Little Women miniseries?! Bless your heart.❤️ In my opinion, it’s the best version.😉 There’s also a remake set in modern times that surprised me by being handled really well. I think Jo will always be my favorite March sister😊(And Amy my least favorite😄).
Yes, I did! I really liked it. I actually cried a few times…(Laurie and Jo… 🙁 ). The scenes, landscapes and dialogue are all so immersive. I know I’ll be watching it many more times. What’s the remake called? I’m curious about it. (Yeah, Amy is something else. 😉 )

May 23, 2023 at 12:50 pm in reply to: A Place to share/write whatever we’re working on: Worldbuilding, plot, etc #144657I like the start to this scene! It has this mysterious, anything-could-happen-next feeling.
A few random ideas I had reading it were:
– Ara accidentally bumps into somebody’s stall and an expensive thing falls and shatters at her feet. There could be shouting, Ara’s guilt and panic, shards of glass all around her…
– Or a twist on the above idea: Somebody breaks something and blames it on Ara, so she gets really panicky because she’s trying to defend herself and everybody’s looking at her accusingly…
Hope these help! You’ve got this girl!!!
