Keilah H. replied to the topic Introduction to Power number 2 in the forum Start HERE 5 years, 2 months ago
@power Welcome! I’m Keilah. I LOVE Narnia and The Wingfeather Saga!
A few questions:
- What’s your favorite animal? Mine are dogs, cats, lizards, dolphins, and dragons! (if dragons count)
- Do you like to draw? I LOVE to!
- What are your favorite movies and shows? Have you written any fanfictions? (I only ask that because 90% of my stories are…

Keilah H. replied to the topic What trope is most common in your stories? in the forum Topic of the Week 5 years, 2 months ago
Found family trope. Definitely. I have, like, three stories with that theme (but in one of them, the character that finds his father is actually a minor character, and ends up dying in the end, sacrificing his own life to save the family he found….I know, sad). Like @joy-caroline said, it’s probably influenced by how that is really our lives as…[Read more]

Keilah H. replied to the topic non-typical critters for stories in the forum Fantasy 5 years, 2 months ago
@elfwing Like I said, lizards (and regular lizards—not dragons). But I don’t see a lot of regular birds, like puffins or flamingos or emus. Those would be cool.

I love lizards, so….Those might be too close to dragons though. I love creating half man, half animal species for my stories…..like centaurs with the bodies of dinosaurs instead of horses

Keilah H. replied to the topic Adding another perspective to my book? in the forum General Writing Discussions 5 years, 2 months ago
I have so many stories I can’t even remember the last time I wrote in some of them.
But that wasn’t your point, right? I usually have only a few different perspectives in my stories, but you can have as many as you want! I’d just warn you that you probably should keep the number of PoVs low, and make it clear whose perspective you’re in, so your…[Read more]

Keilah H. replied to the topic Character Arc chat in the forum Characters 5 years, 2 months ago
@elfwing Star Wars, Tron, Marvel, the Warriors and Wings of Fire book series….and more I don’t remember. Often I combine two different fandoms.

Keilah H. replied to the topic Character Arc chat in the forum Characters 5 years, 2 months ago
@elfwing I’ve done war stories too, sometimes. But on fanfictions, I actually find them easier than regular stories because I have readymade characters, and if I want to add more I have “templates.”

@devastate-lasting It’s okay to retell Biblical stories in a different way, like fantasy or sci-fi or in a different historical time period.

I’m pretty sure almost all my arcs are positive ones. (I’m the person who writes a redemption arc, albeit a pretty badly done one, for the villain of my favorite movie.) Most of my stories aren’t meant to be published (they’re mostly fanfictions anyway) but I try to give most of my characters a chance to either have a happy ending if they’re good…[Read more]

Keilah H. replied to the topic Questions on drafts and beginnings… in the forum General Writing Discussions 5 years, 3 months ago
I just write my stories and then edit them. Many of my novel length stories are fanfictions anyway, but I try to make them good, even if nobody’s going to read them. I think “first draft” is whenever you begin writing the story rather than just planning it out, whether that’s a short version or the whole 500-page thing. I often notice that I’m…[Read more]

Keilah H. replied to the topic Your Villain gets transported into the “real world” in the forum Topic of the Week 5 years, 3 months ago
I would call the authorities ASAP. Cipher (the villain me and my brother created) is too much of a threat to be free. A minor antagonist, like not a villain but not a good guy either, like Bristlecone, I’d probably give her some tuna and milk (she’s an alley cat) and send her on her way.

Keilah H. replied to the topic Favorite Fonts in the forum General Writing Discussions 5 years, 3 months ago
@joy-caroline I use the default on my computer, called calibri body, for my stories, but I love using whatever font I can find for my titles/chapter headings. (Also, I’ve never used comic sans–it’s too roundish and would work better for a graphic novel, which I can’t exactly create on Word, which is what I use to write.) I find that font easy to…[Read more]

Hey everyone! I’m a little stuck on names for my characters. Every one of my stories has at least one character with a unique name–even my many fanfictions have tons of OCs (original characters) alongside those belonging to the original story. I want to know how you choose your characters’ names. Here’s how I do it:
- I stick with natural names…

Keilah H. replied to the topic How did you come up with the idea for your current WIP? in the forum General Writing Discussions 5 years, 3 months ago
@faith-q I get ideas from dreams sometimes. Once when I was three or so, I had a dream that a dolphin, an orca, a shark and a turtle were caught in a net suspended over a waterfall, and a whale saved them. The next day I drew a zillion pictures telling that story (I didn’t know how to write back then).
Other times characters from my stories s…[Read more]

Keilah H. replied to the topic Using a Pen Name: Yay or Nay? in the forum Publishing & Platform 5 years, 3 months ago
I’ve published three picture books, under my own name. I can see what everyone means with the privacy, but personally I like seeing my name on my books. In one of my fanfiction stories, however, I have a character that is technically myself. In the version of the story my brother and I think up, we use our normal names. But when I write the…[Read more]

Keilah H. replied to the topic Fantasy Kingdom Names in the forum Fantasy 5 years, 3 months ago
These names are all so cool! I usually just stick with whatever comes to mind when it comes to mind…hence why my character names are usually similar to each other or are based off someone else’s. But world names? I’m not too good at those. An idea I liked was from The Wingfeather Saga–the world is called Aerwiar, because the first human there,…[Read more]
