Linyang Zhang replied to the topic What's a book that hasn't aged well for you? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years ago
@kathleenramm Ever since I started writing I read much less, and I don’t reread books I read long ago anymore, plus I think we gave a lot of them away. On the rare occasion that I remembered I loved one book as a kid and I would reread it, I usually found it more hilarious than before.
There was one trilogy I really loved called School For Good…[Read more]

Hey, I am suuuper sorry for my late response.
THAT IS SO COOL!!!!! But, you have to finish the false prince series! It’s my absolute favorite!! Ooo yes, I can definitely see that!!! I was actually thinking about how similar your story sounded to the false price when you talked about it!!!
YES!!!! I’d love that…[Read more]

Linyang Zhang replied to the topic What aspect of writing have you grown most with as a writer? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years ago
@kathleenramm I think for me it was probably plot and themes. I remember when I first started writing I didn’t really know what themes I wanted to write about, how to incorporate them, or if I even wanted a theme. Now I think that everything I write has multiple themes woven throughout, though I can’t quite tell what they are. (This is why I…[Read more]

You’re so welcome! I’m glad they were helpful! I had a fair bit of Pinterest clean-up to do when I started using it for blogging, too. XD But I’ve found it to be worth it! I mostly just have a lot more secret boards now than I did before, lol.

Ooh! This is so exciting! I’ve always thought it would be super cool for you to start blogging!
I love your introductory post. It’s beautifully honest. ^-^
I do have a couple blog posts that discuss how to get started blogging. They got eaten by the forum, so let’s see if it’ll let me post them one at a time.
I’d…[Read more]

Linyang Zhang replied to the topic What’s an unexpected place you got a story idea from? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years, 1 month ago
@kathleenramm Plenty of places that I don’t even remember. Probably something similar to your waffle house experience. If I remember I’ll let you know.

Linyang Zhang replied to the topic What's something you thought was necessary in writing, but actually wasn't? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years, 1 month ago
@kathleenramm Oh, almost everything. That you had to follow prose conventions taught in school or plot outlines that followed a specific formula, that your character had to go through a very specific and obvious development, that you had to write something that followed all of these things with a reasonable and expected ending…
None of those…[Read more]

Issabelle Perry replied to the topic Emotions in the forum Characters 3 years, 1 month ago
Oooooo, I’m glad you asked!!! Honestly, the first thing I would do is give the character internal questions. Like, if the character is worried about something, show the reader he/she asking the question to him/herself. Like how @scoutfinch180 did in the first two examples Scoutillus gave. Inner monologue can really go a long…[Read more]
