Arien replied to the topic Autobiography/I need help! in the forum Non-Fiction 1 year, 11 months ago
Autobiographies, I think, generally start with a short scene from some important moment in the person’s life and then go back to when they were born, their parents, and all that stuff. I’m interested in writing one too, but I’m waiting until I’m older, mainly because more will have happened and because I’ll have a better perspective on…[Read more]

Arien replied to the topic Why did you start writing? Why are you still writing? in the forum Mission, Calling & Ethics 1 year, 11 months ago
I grew up in and around books, and I guess it just naturally transferred to writing them. My siblings and I made up stories and histories for our made up play world’s, and we always intended to write them down.
Exactly!
I love words; how they work, how they change, and the pictures they create. I have ideas and tales in my head that ju…

And yeah, family get-togethers can be really fun and/or really, really obscure/weird!

Do I need to tag others too?
I’ll go next, if that’s okay! (Oh, and @starofthenorth is planning to join tomorrow)
Elinor is trying to hide behind Aedan and look like she isn’t. I push her forward.
“All right guys, this is Elinor. And her twin brother Aedan. They are very excited to be here, as you can see.”
I can’t wait!

Hi! I’m Arien, I don’t think we’ve met before. Thanks for tagging me!
I have like 3 or 4 WIPs that I’ll use characters from for this, if that’s okay.
1. Ringbearer
Yay, I’m the ringbearer! I wouldn’t miss the chance be an Elf.
2. Gandalf
Cronas, the wizard mentor from the yet-unwritten Bloodstone Chronicles
3. Aragorn
Durwin,…[Read more]

Ooh, great idea! This sounds fun! I’ll give it a go but I’m not sure exactly how it will work . . .
I’ll just tag everyone else: @mineralizedwritings @koshka @felicity
Umm, okay, here goes!
I open the pages of my notebook and my characters hop out, 1, 2, 3. Maybe I’ll add more later, but here are Aedan and…[Read more]

Arien replied to the topic I've started my draft, would you guys keep reading this story? in the forum Novel Critique Requests 1 year, 11 months ago
I LOVE the last few chapters you’ve posted! Especially Layson . . . he’s so sweet with the kids. 😍😍 I might read it all again tomorrow but I just had to say great job with everything! I love the emotions and I’m definitely hooked!

Durwin, when he first shows up in the woods and scares the wits out of Aedan and Elinor:
But later he looks a little less frightening and stern:

So, I’ve always loved reading. Even when I was little enough to not know how to read, I would sit in the floor with a picture book and try to read to myself and my mama.
LOL. I “read” to my sister and my friend when I was super little too. 😊
And as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized how most regular YA and middle fiction is just…

Your testimony is lovely, thanks for sharing 😊
My Rexy series was inspired by the fact that I have autism, and that I hate it when people call it a “disability.” Like, there is nothing that stops me from living a normal-ish life. So I wrote a picture book about a dinosaur with a speech problem, got it self-published on Amazon, and it…

Well, because the world needs fiction that is clean, but not cheesy. It needs God-honoring books that aren’t preachy. They need truth! Sure, some books out there do have really good themes, but they have no basis for why that is right or good. Being a Christian writer enables me to write strong truths, (specifically for young adults), t…

That’s a really cool story! I started loving writing in 2020 as well. My sister and I had nothing to do except write and go on walks and talk about writing, so that’s what we did. 😂 It was really helpful though!
I want some good, clean, Christian Sci-fi novels and I love expressing myself through words and getting story plots,…

I started writing because I had stories to tell. Even before I knew how to write, I made up stories in my head and imagined all sorts of things. I also played make believe every minute I got, which gave me a chance to “live” the stories I had in my head.
Yes, me too! It probably helped in some way . . . I was used to telling myself sto…[Read more]

Previous to that, my sister and I would make up stories with out stuffies and toys.
Yes, us too! So much fun, right? I would make literally anything I was doing into a story when I was younger–mostly playing outside, but also cooking, cleaning my room, doing laundry, anything! I told my stories out loud, too, so I bet all my…[Read more]

Glad to know I’m not the only one with a kind of silly reason why I started writing! Some people have a really cool or inspiring reason, and I’m just like . . . I’ve always been writing. One of my grandpas was a librarian and the other was an editor, and I have a great-aunt who has a Ph.D. in English Literature and taught at a college…[Read more]

Fun story! I agree with @mineralizedwritings :
It seems like the kind of story you read when you need a pick me up. Low stakes, but still lots of fun, and the time travel thing makes it extra interesting!
Oof, the dialogue thing like @esther-c mentioned can be hard . . . I struggle with making it natural as well. (That’s what happens…[Read more]

That reminds me of (sorry, @arien) when my sister put a whole can of chipotle peppers into soup instead of one single pepper . . . I ate it anyway. My dad actually enjoyed it . . . lol
