First of all, cool profile picture! Spider-Man is the best!
Second, you aren’t Team Captain America😱?? Noooo!! Actually, in the last movie, I felt so let down that he was an old man. It didn’t seem right. Captain America can never be an old man! It is weird he went to live in another time, but I am kind of glad because he really didn’t belong…[Read more]

Hobbitchild replied to the topic What piece of writing advice changed the way you write the most? in the forum Topic of the Week 6 years, 1 month ago
Probably not using too many “…”s. I used those a LOT when I was writing a book based off my favorite television series (I basically wrote down almost everything they said, but they paused a lot, and I had a hard time ignoring those pauses in my writing).
Also, if you just write down your story, really following the train of your thought and not…[Read more]

Hobbitchild replied to the topic If you could be a student of any Author, who would it be? in the forum Topic of the Week 6 years, 1 month ago
I’d say either J.R.R. Tolkien, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, or Andrew Clements. Oh, or Beverly Cleary (who, surprisingly, I think is still alive). She is in her hundreds.
@kathleenramm, I’ve just been listening to the Narnia radio dramas by Focus on the Family again! They are so well done!

@michelle Sweet 😀
Do you think it’s publishable? Definitely!
Does it keep your interest? Yep! My only minor suggestion would be to make the rats pop up a little more in the story. They’re kind of just in there for the first chapter and then never mentioned again, which to me felt kinda awkward … but that might just be me being overly picky…[Read more]

@michelle Hey! I finished your book; it was really sweet! Quick question: where do you want me to answer the feedback questions? On here, or on the book doc itself in the comments or something?

World War One is a great era! I like whatever era the Waltons were in (thirties or forties) and 1800s. I usually write in present day, though.

It looks like the last new topic was published two years ago…
So, what kinds of filmmaking does everyone do? What kinds of films would you like to make in the future?
Some advice: making a documentary is so fun. You should try it! I made one last year on a theatre camp I had the privilege to be a part of. It was very cool to model my work…[Read more]

Hobbitchild replied to the topic Ideas for a short story? in the forum Plotting 6 years, 1 month ago
Hi!
I’ve been writing short stories for three or four years for a school curriculum. Some advice that I have found helpful is to limit your stories to a small concept (a trip to the story, a visit with friends). Try to really flesh out the details. A helpful thing to do is to read a chapter from a children’s book (the kind where each chapter…[Read more]

SeekJustice replied to the topic What made you start writing stories? How old were you when you started? in the forum Topic of the Week 6 years, 1 month ago
I can’t believe I missed this thread! I’m going to jump in now.
I’ve been making up stories ever since I was really small! Three or four I’d say. My mum used to write them down for me and I’d illustrate 🙂
But I couldn’t write or read well until I was about twelve, so that’s when I first started writing. My very first stories were fanfictions of…[Read more]

Hobbitchild replied to the topic I’m publishing a book… in the forum Start HERE 6 years, 1 month ago
Hi!
Thanks for the kind comment! I am publishing it as an ebook on Amazon. It took about two years to write. I actually sent one draft of the first chapter to a bestselling author, Andrew Clements, who wrote back to say that it made him want to read more! That was very encouraging, but unfortunately Mr. Clements died shortly after.

“Bob the Baby was walking along. Then, he jumped on somebody’s head.” Bob the Baby was a character I made up.
I have a book that I filed with the others that goes like this:
(Title) Who ate the grapes?
One day there was a girl who saw grapes.
She ate the grapes.
And she walked away from the grapes.
And she sat on the…[Read more]

So, what is y’all’s favorite time period in which to write in? Is it this century? Or is it more around the time of the revolution, the civil war, or, say, fifty years ago?
Thoughts?
