Dropping some more of the story… here we go with some more of the journey! It needs more work, but this is what I’ve got so far….
The next morning we were up before dawn again, starting another day of endless walking. This continued to be our pattern for the remainder of the week. It rained on our fourth day of the…[Read more]

@anyone-and-everyone
I’m just curious to see if anyone else has read the Dragons in Our Midst series, because I love it and I don’t hear a lot of people talking about it.

It looks like we only have one female character here thus far, so I believe it is time to announce mine!
Meet Kari Brock, age 16. She’s 5’4″, with delicate features, shoulder-length blond hair, and deep blue eyes. She is quiet and dreamy and values deep, close relationships,…[Read more]

Maybe I’ll have to jump in on this! I’ve never done one of these before, but the costume party idea sounds fun!

@savannah_grace2009 Joke’s on me, I forgot I put it in the first sentence! But if you aren’t paying attention, it’s easy to miss. It’s vague, and you’d have to assume she was living there since she was born, so I should probably clarify that a little, but it’s there.
“A dull ache filled my heart as I took a last look around the house I had called…[Read more]

@savannah_grace2009 No, that’s a good question! I didn’t even realize I missed that, but she’s thirteen here at the beginning of the story.

@freedomwriter76 @acancello @savannah_grace2009 @anyone else interested
I thought you guys might enjoy reading some of what I’ve written and giving some feedback! I have many WIPs but this is my historical fiction featuring MC Libbie Hopkins. I don’t have it divided into chapters yet (I get too locked into structure when I set up the chapters…[Read more]

@grcr I know several others already commented on this, but I wanted to add one more thing about the descriptions that might help. Given that this is the first chapter of your book, I think it would be helpful to find a way to start it off with more action, or some way to hook the reader. It didn’t pull me in very well, but once I got past the…[Read more]

@freedomwriter76 That’s fun! I have a contemporary fiction that’s a meshing of the lives of several girls, and I’ve been trying to figure out if I can keep it that way or if I need to split it and write each of them their own book in a series. I started it a number of years ago but now I’ve been looking at it and thinking that I have too many main…[Read more]

@freedomwriter76 Definitely!
I had some ideas about starting a series to include the different historical fiction WIPs (maybe they’d be part of the same family line or something) but we’ll see what happens with that. At this point I think they’re probably better as stand-alone.

@freedomwriter76 I agree, ancient history doesn’t hold as much weight for me. I enjoy history overall, but American history is definitely the most interesting to me. The American Revolution is a favorite of mine (I have another WIP from that era but it’s not very fleshed out yet) and I have a few ideas for another one set during the Great…[Read more]

@freedomwriter76 ooh, ok! Is your favorite time period during WWII, or do you have other time periods in history that you like, too?

1) I don’t know if I have just one favorite book, but my favorite series is Dragons In Our Midst by Bryan Davis.
2)Favorite dessert… that’s hard! My mom makes a strawberry cream pie that I really like, and homemade peach ice cream is pretty good, too!
And as for current historical WIP, yes, I do! I’ve been working on one set…[Read more]

@everyone
Another thought I had as I was reading all your comments is that I don’t think any of us will express God the same way in our writing, nor do I think there is necessarily a “right” way. We all have different experiences with God, and those experiences will shape how we portray Him in our stories. And I don’t think that’s a bad thing,…[Read more]
