@joy-caroline Yeah, I think they’re similar enough. They’re both part of the Christian genre, which I think is broader.

During drafting that sounds a lot like me, 500 words an hour:)
What keeps me from overthinking? Pretty much the thought that I still have many more drafts to go, so that frees my rein and permits me the fun of messing things up and not worrying about it too much. That and deadlines to keep the words flowing and having other…[Read more] -

I’ve never watched Pirates of the Caribbean, but I’ve been wanting to and wait, the characters get married during a fight? I think I saw the fight during a trailer… was it on a ship and they were being attacked by- I’m not sure what they were actually and were in the middle of a storm? Either way, I have seriously got to see this movie!

Thank you for tagging me Lydia!
Well, my MCs are always between the 15-17 age range and I have a tendency to make romances very, very, very difficult for them. The proposals I’ve, like you said, gone over for weeks in my head (I love doing that with scenes btw:) will never make it into the writing itself except for maybe a separate doc…[Read more]

Don’t worry about it!:) That happens to me all the time when trying to edit a post XD
I’m so ecstatic to hear that the tips were so helpful!! 😀 -

A few times? I take my hat off to you then because it took me much longer than that to figure it out and I had the whole novel’s knowledge behind me XD But yeah, I’ve been enjoying the series (even if I’m enjoying it out of order), and tbh the only reason I’m getting any reading done is because my dog gets me up at about v…[Read more]

Linyang Zhang replied to the topic What's a tip or tactic that has helped you recently with writing? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years, 6 months ago
@kathleenramm Ah, short stories are really effective! I have a lot started but I don’t know how short or long they’re gonna be just yet…
Recently, I guess has been more of scheduling things and getting my priorities straight. For the past year I’ve just been falling behind on my writing schedule of 5 pgs a day and ending up having to cram…[Read more]

@gracie-j Glad I could help! Be warned, writing by hand has its disadvantages (namely, typing it all out again) but I do recommend it but as a distraction-free method!

@gracie-j Eyy, thanks for the tag! I’ll just answer your questions one by one.
1. Since I handwrite, my handwriting is so messy that I just ignore whatever I wrote beforehand. Also, writing with pen means I can’t edit or delete.
2. When I’m on computer I try not to do second drafts. Although, I will admit, sometimes I do need second drafts to…[Read more]

Word sprints might help. Just set a timer and go without stopping. I don’t know if you use Scrivener, but it has this really cool feature where when you go to full screen typing mode, it has a setting that will only let you see the line that you’re typing (or a couple behind) to stay focused. My drafts are messy, but I just tell myself…[Read more]

@iluvhim18 Oooh royalty!! My favorite:D
Hmm, since she wouldn’t abdicate… what if she was back in the vicinity of your other characters doing royalty-related things? Like, she’s essentially on a business trip, or she needs something from their country and thus has an excuse to be there. Does that make sense?

Is your main character part of the Silyans?

@ariel-f Ah, I’ve been meaning to read some Star Wars books. I have, mainly, one that’s been sitting by my couch for years. The movie adaptions are really good though.
Oh, you should try it sometime! It’s quite good!
Ah, unfortunately I am not talented enough to write such a beautiful lyric. It’s a translation from Kenshi Yonezu’s “Campanella”,…[Read more]

@lydia-s Yes, such a beautiful topic!! Though lololol, it made me realize that I have no idea how, when, or if my two engaged characters experience a proposal. I might have to give writing that scene a whirl…Â
I do have IRL experience with the subject but that’s another matter entirelyAnyway, what’s your favorite proposal scene that you’ve…[Read more]

@elfwing Oh this is such a good topic! Tears can be so difficult to write, for sure.
I don’t necessarily have a ton to add (Lydia and JC have covered the topic amazingly), though I will say that I rarely if ever read a guy character crying as wimpy–it can honestly be quite refreshing to see one cry, because it’s both strangely unusual to find i…[Read more]

@lydia-s Ah, I see, I see. Well, nevertheless my congratulations still stand–finishing half of high school is no easy feat! And thank you!!! It’s all been very exciting 😀
That’s an excellent question! It really varied from class to class. Like, in my Early American Lit class we read books like Walden, Last of the Mohicans, House of Seven G…[Read more]
