Bethany replied to the topic What's a book that hasn't aged well for you? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years ago
Oh yes Pollyanna! That was one of the first novels I read, and I enjoyed it then, but I haven’t read it since. I have a hunch my feelings toward it now would be quite different.
I haven’t read Elsie Dinsmore, but I’ve heard enough about it that I know I’d only read it for laughs. Or if I want to pull all my hair out. Probably the latter.

Okay, y’all, I’ve got a dilemma on my hands.
To give you a bit of background information, my main character (Emeric Dertok) has recently come back into society after eight years of living the life of a hermit. He’s working for the King (Jornan), who charged him with the task of tracking down spies trying to sabotage the government. But as enters…[Read more]

thank you for the kind words, Kathleen! John 14 is a wonderful idea. it’s hard to always remember that God is there, but what you said is so true. now that i think about it, songs are the main things that come on and remind me of the truth. “water under the bridge” is what my mom likes to say, when life is hard sometimes. thank…[Read more]

Keilah H. started the topic Worldbuilding in a dystopian novel in the forum Sci-Fi 3 years ago
Hey everyone! Keilah here. I’m currently worldbuilding on a dystopian/sci-fi/fantasy world, and I’d like your feedback on it!
The premise I have so far (for the first book anyway, I might make it a series):
Torrent Starcatcher has had a hard life.
She was born into a universe in turmoil; the violent dictator Indy has been in control since before…

Jodi Maile started the topic When you don't like the direction of your story… in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 1 month ago
Hello, everyone! I wanted to ask for some advice about a problem I have with a short story. Right now, I mostly do short stories, but this has been a big problem for me with novels as well.
So, here’s the problem: I’ll usually start a story with a clear idea of the direction it’s taking, the feeling I want the story to have. I’ll follow that…[Read more]

Keilah H. replied to the topic Have you ever created a crossover fanfiction? in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 2 months ago
@seekjustice *gasp* I LOVE the warrior cats books! I write Warriors fanfics for all my other fandoms–I have Star Wars, Marvel, Lord of the Rings, Jurassic World, Tron, and Keeper of the Lost Cities warrior clans. (The last two you might not have heard of. They’re a movie series and book series respectively.)

Keilah H. replied to the topic Have you ever created a crossover fanfiction? in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 2 months ago
@seekjustice My stories from various places: the characters usually come from Star Wars, Marvel, or Tron (a two-movie series barely anyone has heard of but I really love), and the storylines can come from those movies but often instead are from book series such as Wings of Fire (about dragons) or Warriors (about cats). I have built up a huge…[Read more]

Elfwing replied to the topic What's the harshest critique you've ever received about your writing? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years, 2 months ago
@kathleenramm The toughest criticism of anything I had, would be my mom on a story I wrote. it was very ridiculous, even for a 12-year-old’s writing and she told me as much and that I could definitely improve it. She said it lovingly, but at that point, it didn’t matter how she said it, it stung my childish pride. XD It was for my schoolwork and…[Read more]

So I recently had two or three ideas that really need to go in my WIP. The problem is that I’m already like a quarter into it. They’re pretty big parts of it (the main character’s father is dead, for example) so I’m trying to decide whether I should go back and add them in now, since they’ll affect the story later on in pretty big ways, or just w…[Read more]
