Arien started the topic Anyone want a year-end challenge/celebration? in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 2 months ago
Okay guys, since it’s New Year’s Eve and all, I have a great idea:
We stay up and write until midnight, when we celebrate the new year, decide our writing goals for the year, and then fall into bed exhausted. How’s that sound?
@starofthenorth and I are doing it! Join us, from wherever you are! 🥳🥳🎉🎉🎆
Let us know how it goes! 😂

And yeah, family get-togethers can be really fun and/or really, really obscure/weird!

@lewilliams Yep! I love fanfics. They’re 99% of my writing.
I like giving villain characters redemption arcs…and I also like marrying off official fandom characters to OC’s (if they don’t have a good ship already)

@whalekeeper @lewilliams yeah I liked the “magic” system. It didn’t seem like magic to me. I could totally see it being a supplement to the way the world works, not an outright replacement. Especially since the elves are so much more powerful than humans.

Okay, okay, this opinion checks out 😜 It is middle-grade leaning into YA (or YA leaning into middle-grade?), after all. So the humour is prioritized sometimes.
Ooo, who is the Correct Boy™, specifically? O.O
Because, if you mean Keefe, he is undoubtedly better than Fitz. Just sayin’.
Yeah, they are different, in style of writing m…[Read more]

Wow, all of y’all’s stories are so inspiring 😊😍!!
So, I’ve always loved reading. Even when I was little enough to not know how to read, I would sit in the floor with a picture book and try to read to myself and my mama.
When I was about eleven, I was on a zoom call…[Read more] -

Glad to know I’m not the only one with a kind of silly reason why I started writing! Some people have a really cool or inspiring reason, and I’m just like . . . I’ve always been writing. One of my grandpas was a librarian and the other was an editor, and I have a great-aunt who has a Ph.D. in English Literature and taught at a college…[Read more]

(Nice to meet you! I’m Erica!)
It’s definitely more in the YA realm of intensity rather than middle grade, though the bright covers can be a bit misleading.
Yes, I would definitely classify KOTLC as YA. I haven’t read many YA books at all, so maybe that’s why I’m more sensitive?
As for the intensity I personally felt t…

For me, I can’t even remember why I started writing. I was bored, I guess, and I asked Mom for a piece of paper and started writing a rip-off of a Boxcar Children book. I got a few chapters in, then abandoned it. I was maybe 8 at the time. And I wrote some stories about my stuffed animals. Later I tried to write a novel about a cowgirl. *hides in…[Read more]

So yeah, the intense mind powers and extremely broken people was a turn-off for me, but I think an even bigger thing was how the kids were breaking rules (important rules!) and getting away with it/encouraged to keep doing it BY THE ADULTS IN…[Read more]

Thank you!! I wasn’t certain if I’d still have fondness for the characters, or if I’d want to burn the whole thing with endless fire 😅 I must say, it has been tough paving my way through the previously terrible world-building, and a few characters have indeed bitten the dust.

Aw, I’m so happy that KP helped gave you what you were looking for! It’s awesome to have you as a part of the community. 🙂As for the genre, I’m thinking more slice-of-life modern-day with some fantasy, mystery, and maybe even a bit of paranormal/horror elements added in the mix as well.
I want it to feel both grounded and heartfelt…[Read more]
