@scripter-of-kingdoms Whoa!! What a gripping prologue! I’m already so intrigued–what are Bren’s bad memories? Where is she going? What’s going to happen to her family now that she’s gone? What happened to Blue? (Wonderful name, btw.) So many questions! 😀 Though heh, I also have a character who’s tentatively/temporarily named Bren, so that was a…[Read more]

@issawriter7 Thank you for sharing! I really enjoyed reading your excerpt. Heh, what else are we writers for but to torment our poor charries? 😛 That’s such a cool story behind the name!! I’ll have to listen to the song now. 😀

@godlyfantasy12 This is such a wonderful idea for a topic!! Spreading encouragement around is such a beautiful thing. 😀 Thank you so much for sharing your excerpt!! Your character names are fantastic, for starters. November especially is so unique; I love it. 😀 I just want to give all of them a hug though–it sounds like they need it. Your…[Read more]

Hello Grace!! I’m Elizabeth, and it’s so very nice to meet you. Here, have some tea. *hands you a mug*
That’s so cool that you like LoZ!! I’m currently looking fondly at my bullet journal, which has not one but two Zelda stickers on the cover. Are there any other video games/game series that you’re into? 😀 Plus, faemàtle is such a cool name f…[Read more]

Thank you for sharing your expertise! This is quite a helpful topic 😀
So, I don’t have quite a hate-to-love romance, but I have something close. I raise you the situation my poor characters are in:
Tin (who is a brand-new queen) and Rand are about to get married (for strictly royal/political alliance reasons)
Rand, who has Not Been…[Read more]

@kathleenramm This is such a neat topic!!! I’ve loved looking through everyone’s posts and seeing what people are reading. Unfortunately, I don’t read a ton these days (I blame that #EnglishMajorLife), though I have started listening to audiobooks more these days. (Not having a dishwasher means that I have a lot of potential listening time to f…[Read more]

Elizabeth replied to the topic What Makes a Mystery? in the forum General Writing Discussions 5 years, 3 months ago
(Side note, but every time I see the title of this topic, my mind sings, “What makes a monster, and what makes a man?” from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, so that’s been an interesting phenomenon. :P)
@devastate-lasting Oh nice! Not too many people have heard of him in my experience. They’re really some delightful games, IMO.

@gracie-j Hmm, I’m going to have to ponder that one! I don’t read a ton of mysteries, nor do I write them (except for that one time I tried and consequently Gave Up™). However, I have started playing through the Professor Layton video game series with my husband, and based on that… I would have to say the interweaving of seemingly unrelated…[Read more]

Elizabeth replied to the topic What is a popular book that you dislike? Why do you dislike it? in the forum Topic of the Week 5 years, 3 months ago
@kathleenramm This is such an interesting topic! I’ve been wracking my brain for a good, concrete answer, but instead all I can come up with is this:
*vague gesture at most of the popular YA books I’ve read*
*vague gesture at almost every single book I’ve read in my English classes*
To elaborate on the second one, I especially disliked the…[Read more]

Hello Chloe, and welcome to the Kingdom of Pen! *offers a cup of green tea with honey and lemon* Do make yourself at home. I’m Elizabeth, and it’s very nice to meet you, even if I am a bit late to the party. 🙂

Elizabeth replied to the topic A Show For Creative Entrepreneurs in the forum Publishing & Platform 5 years, 3 months ago
@reaganramm I would definitely be interested! Hearing advice directed towards other types of creators sometimes helps me more than writer-specific advice, oddly enough, so I don’t think it would be too broad in that way.

@abigail-m Hey there!!! I’m a little late to the party, but wanted to welcome you to KP regardless! I’m Elizabeth, as is not /immediately/ apparent from my username. I see from the conversation directly above this post that you’re not a tea person per se, but here, have a cup anyway. *hands you a cup of Wild Berry Zinger*

@godlyfantasy12 Cool!! What’s your WIP about? I’m also in the midst of a fantasy duology, so that’s cool you have an idea for one!

Elizabeth replied to the topic Writers' Corner 01 in the forum General Writing Discussions 5 years, 4 months ago
@godlyfantasy12 I’ll be around for a bit! A bit sporadic, perhaps, as I have laundry and dishes to take care of this morning, but hopefully I’ll get some writing in. Ah, the joys of adulthood. 😛 What are you planning on working on?

Hello dear friends!
First of all, my heartiest apologies to anyone I was in the midst of a conversation with and never replied to. You see, I’ve just experienced this really rare phenomenon called “finals week” and its even rarer successor, “recovering from finals week.” Not sure if anyone’s ever heard of it. 😛
Second of all, I have an idea (in…[Read more]

@godlyfantasy12 Did somebody say…bullet journaling??
I’ve been bullet journaling since ca. June 2019, and oh my goodness it has helped me so much. Like you and @kathleenramm, I love amandarachlee (and may or may not have drawn heavy inspiration from her for my monthly themes, oops).
When it comes to scheduling, my #1 tip would be not to work…[Read more]

Elizabeth replied to the topic Would You Rather Character Edition in the forum Characters 5 years, 5 months ago
@gracie-j Oooh, Rina with magic? Sounds like great fun if you ask me.
To answer your question, Arvi would rather be feared, Tin wants desperately to be loved, and Horace doesn’t care so long as he gets what he wants.
Hmm, this is a tricky one… I think all three of my MCs would prefer to keep their magic if they had the…[Read more]

@e-k-seaver Hey friend,
First of all, I’m sorry you’re dealing with so much discouragement. That isn’t a fun spot to be in whatsoever, and my heart goes out to you. <3
Second of all, the fact that you’re asking whether or not you need to take a break is a pretty good sign that you probably should. Seriously. I’m going to echo some of what @devastate-lasting I’m going to conveniently ignore the fact that a few of my characters are in a love triangle (albeit a very…odd one, let’s just say), and answer accordingly:
Horace would pick neither of them, because he’s too busy trying to either stop a coup-d’etat or start one. Tin would pick the non-bad-boy-with-a-tragic-backstory one,…[Read more]

Elizabeth replied to the topic What's something not related to writing, that inspires the most story ideas? in the forum Topic of the Week 5 years, 6 months ago
Is it odd that I…don’t get a ton of new story ideas? Like, I definitely get ideas for one of my two current WIPs, but I can’t really remember the last time I had an idea that wasn’t applicable to either one or the other. My dear duology just takes up a lot of headspace, y’know?
When I get an idea for my WIP, though, lately my…[Read more]
