@lydia-s Hey Lydia!! I haven’t talked to you in a while. How’s it going? What WIPs are you working on lately?
-
Hey, Ella!!! How are you doing? I’m doing great; super happy to have more free time now that 4H is winding down. 😀
So, lately, I haven’t been doing much writing, due to my adventures with my 4H projects. Mostly, I’ve been working on a book I’ve been writing for my sister. I’ll probably continue in that, but a bit more part-time. I have one other…[Read more]-
Heyyy! No problemo! Ooo, nice, I’m glad that you can work on something for your sis. I love doing stuff like that. You got this, girl! You’ll probably get your novel done by next month!! 😉
I’m good, just tryna keep my writing schedule straight. My normal schedule has been up and down because of a packed week, then an injury, so all I’ve…[Read more]-
Aww, thanks for all the encouragement!

@devastate-lasting Hey Lin! Just wanted to check in. I haven’t been active recently because I was on vacation in GA, but now I’m back home and getting back into my routine. 😂 What’s going on with you? What’s your WIP about? (Does it have an amazing title? Your book titles are always so awesome.) Mine is an urban fantasy/dystopia about…[Read more]

Hi Ella! I hope you had fun on your vacation! Me, my school just ended, so I’m trying to find a routine with a couple of different WIPs and music. I maybe started another 10 stories since the last time you checked in, haha, but most are on hold now. I’ll give you two: one is a potential short story/novelette called “Ravens of the Valley” about a…[Read more]

the vacay was awesome! stayed up till midnight and went on a run in the morning, lol!! i totally get that–i started writing 7 different ideas and rn i’m working on a different one. 🙂 those ideas sound great!! 😃 the assassin (Selena) has super agility/reflexes (u know how dumb that sound when i say it out loud? 🤣) and she can pinpoint any…[Read more]

Oo, Selena sounds super cool! Who are the people trying to track her down? Or is she the main character?
I’m loving this month’s theme! No, I don’t have Disney+, but I have seen the trailer for it!-
So, it’s kind of complicated. Selena’s father left mysteriously when she was 10, leaving a strange necklace and a letter in which he promised to return, then she was transferred to the foster system. When she was 14, she ran away from her foster parents and forged a life for herself (it’s a dystopian world that’s half underwater + urban…[Read more]

Oo, that sounds absolutely awesome! I’m also getting into dystopian lately, haha. Best of luck on your endeavors!

R.M. Archer replied to the topic What mythological creature would you like as a writing partner? in the forum Topic of the Week 4 years, 9 months ago
A sphinx. For all the same reasons. Plus, they speak in riddles, which would exercise my brain on a routine basis and potentially help me come up with more creative phrases to replace cliches because I could practice giving unexpected but accurate answers to said riddles. Plus, sphinxes are underappreciated and I like…[Read more]

3/3: And once you have a map image, Map to Globe is super cool! (Assuming your world is a globe.) And definitely helpful if you want to see where things are in relation to one another in 3D.

The forum ate my post. Let me see if I can split it into pieces so I only have one link per post…
1/3: I have a blog post about different methods for getting a map. Inkarnate is mentioned; I also give a few tips for hand-drawing maps.

From a project I work on sometimes when I’m bored but have no intention of ever doing anything with:
River stepped into her room and hastily drew the locks, only releasing a sigh of relief after she’d done so.
@elfwing Seeing them combined was super fun!

R.M. Archer replied to the topic Genre Publishing Question in the forum General Writing Discussions 4 years, 9 months ago
@joy-caroline Those are definitely similar enough!
I plan on writing all of my fantasy/sci-fi/dystopian/post-apocalyptic stuff under the same pen name, because it’s all fantastical speculative fiction and I have the same recurring themes and focuses throughout (worldview, family, community, etc.). Plus, all of my worlds are connected in some way…[Read more]

1. How do you keep your focus on writing instead of over-thinking?
This one’s already been well-covered. Sprints, and reminders that this is meant to be a mess that you can fix later.
2. How rough do your drafts look?
It depends on the book. Calligraphy Guild, came out extremely neat in comparison to most of my books, but it’s an o…[Read more]

@lewilliams To expand on that, I would presume (and hope) it makes a big difference whether you go to a secular college or a Christian college. I can’t speak from experience, of course, but the whole underlying worldview ought to be different, so what material is presented and what worldview the professors expect you to bring to the text ought to…[Read more]
