Jodi Maile replied to the topic What's a Genre or form of writing you used to dislike, but now enjoy? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years, 2 months ago
I think Percy Jackson, as well as some modern setting/historical fiction books by James Scott Bell, really helped tip the scales for my appreciation of books set in those time periods. I also started taking history classes at my college, because I thought learning about history would give me more ideas for stories. Because of that…[Read more]

@daisy-torres Ooh, I’m definitely interested, though I may or may not have the time to fully dive into it and give you solid feedback. How soon do you need the critique back?

I used to dislike reading anything set in the modern world and/or historical settings if it didn’t have some magical element in it (so, I totally understand the old not-liking-historical-fiction thing, @nova21!) Now, I love historical fictional as well as contemporary legal thrillers and a few other genres set in the real world 🙂

Hello Annika! My name is Jodi, and I write fantasy, historical fiction, and a few other things. I also love books about hobbits, as well as other fantasy stories. I loved the Redwall series by Brian Jacques when I was younger.
What place would you go to in any story, if you could?
So nice to meet you! Welcome to Kingdom Pen 🙂

@gracie-j thanks for the tag!
@e-k-seaver I’d love to read it but I’m a little swamped right now with work, so I don’t think I’d be able to give your book the attention it deserves at the moment. I wish you the best with your revisions, though! 🙂

All of the above sounds great actually! I’d love to know more about any hobbies of yours. Posts about how you work your way out of writing ruts/plot holes/lack of inspiration are always helpful to me. Also you could write about things you have opinions on, like writing with/without music, movies and books you like, that kind of thing 🙂

That. Is. So. Cool!!! I want to watch that show right now! If you ever need someone to beta that script…I’ll be here XD
I also love fantasy and action, and I love legal thrillers/spy movies. Ooh, my dream film might be a fantasy quest/spy/war mashup (yeah…that’s pretty vague. It made more sense in my head). I’m a pantser too,…[Read more]

@hallie-jean That is so cool! Yes, The Avengers and The Lord of the Rings have also inspired me haha. And a TV show?? That’s awesome! I have a couple ideas for films/TV shows but haven’t gotten around to really outlining them yet.

@hobbitchild @hallie-jean Hellooo, everyone! I actually have been interested in doing screenwriting for a while now, so I guess that counts as being interested in filmmaking. I have yet to actually write a script, but I’m devoting my summer to learning more about screenwriting/filmmaking so I have a clearer idea of where to start. I love…[Read more]

Ugh, I totally understand this struggle. I think @devastate-lasting put things well when she said to just go back and leave notes about what you want to change. This will help, since you won’t be taking the time out of writing to actually change those things yet. I always want to go back and change things, since I have a very…[Read more]

Jodi Maile replied to the topic Favorite Fonts in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 4 months ago
@joy-caroline Great question! I use Times New Roman and pretty much nothing else…it actually might be a good idea to switch up the font I use, since I’ve used Times New Roman through all of college and it might not be helping my brain be creative, since it’s ingrained in my memory as an academic font lol

@joy-caroline If this offer is still open, I just realized that I’d love a book cover for a short story that I wrote a while ago. Here are some more details:
Title: Snow White & the Seven Seas
Elements: pirates, ships, typical Snow White themes (black hair, red apples, etc.), and a jewel-toned kingdom/ocean aesthetic (if I’m making any sense…[Read more]
