      @kathleenramm
      I actually started working on one about human experimentation in which the characters escaped and made their way to Charleston, SC (one of the places I grew up) but I dropped the story because I didn’t end up liking it.

      I also read one set in Charleston where there was absolutely zero research done of where things are.  It was funny.

          @jenwriter17 You did! Sorry you were tagged, I just copy-pasted from someone else’s post XD

          @power
          , it’s not a book for the faint of heart

          @koshka
          , The Reflections is a bit morbid at times but it’s also clean, for context my 13-yr-old sister is totally good reading it.

          @daisy-torres

          that would be awesome!

            Generally, the kind of writing I’m best at is the one where you open the computer and put words onto a blank google doc. However, of course, I’m also open to the kind involving finding secret journals I misplaced and documenting the darkest of human emotions.

              @daisy-torre The House That Didn’t End is probably urban fantasy?

                Okay, cool. Honestly, I don’t care if you like it or not. It will not offend me either way. Like whatever you want book-wise. You don’t have to rest any case.

                  @elanor

                  Funnily enough I’m writing a prison escape scene in my book too. The prison is on the top of the mountain, and of the two people escaping, one knows where they’re going and the other doesn’t. I feel like it’s fairly interesting having the POV character being forced to rely on the already somewhat untrustworthy informed character. They also get out of the prison fairly quickly (because one of the characters knows what they’re doing) but have to walk down the mountain in the snow and the actual confrontation is when they’re at the bottom of the mountain.

                    @not-so-secret-secret-assassin dude there’s literally so many ways to get around that. You could have a sibling/friend/parent take you. The gym could be in your neighborhood so you just drive a golf cart. It might be near enough to walk or ride a bike to.

                    Your mind games will not work on me. I’ve orchestrated my own for years.

                      @not-so-secret-secret-assassin Book one isn’t that good. Even Peterson himself has expressed displeasure for it. I wasn’t a fan until books three and four. Those were solid and the worldbuilding was complete enough that it’s where the story was fully in swing.

                                @kathleenramm it has to be the Elsie Densmore series.

                                For those of you who haven’t read it, it’s basically about this little orphan girl who is staying with her wealthy Southern grandparents in the 1800s. The girl is a Christian… or at least, the most perfect representation of legalistic Christianity I’ve ever seen. This girl refused to play the piano on Sunday in one of the books because that was “work.” She was the epitome of Mary Sue… and I’m going to be honest, if that was the only basis of Christianity I had I would not want to be a Christian. All the other characters sinned (one of her cousins actually, like… pushed her off a cliff or something? I can’t exactly remember, but she was just like “Ah yeah I forgive him” and moved on? It was so strange.) The whole thing has weird “earn your way to heaven by obeying all of the rules” vibes and… yeah. I get that she was supposed to be a good example for people reading the book, but it just came off as pretentious and unrealistic. For a little girl who already struggled with basing her worth on how “good” she was, I should not have read that series and it did more harm than good.

                                Actually, realizing how awful that series was has made me more passionate about writing good Christian literature. We need real characters. Broken characters. Characters who are hurting and imperfect like all of us are. And we need to see them struggle with their relationship with God and grow closer to Him and be confused and then learn and have their faith deepened. So yeah.

                                The pen is mightier than the sword, but in a duel, I'm taking the sword.
