“Take the three main characters of a recent story you wrote: which one would you go to brunch with, which one would you rob a bank with, and which one would you pull an elaborate prank on?”
Hmmm… Okay, I take the story I’m writing with my siblings ’cause it’s currently my favorite.
Here are three of our six main characters.

Kathleen replied to the topic Anyone else feel like all your story ideas are beyond your skill level? in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 6 months ago
I’m a bit late to this topic and everyone else had great advice, but I just decided to pitch in my thoughts just in case it can help at all. 🙂
My best advice for handling darker, grittier things, is not the most helpful advice because a lot of people can’t do it, but to have some kinda first hand experience with it, or be really…[Read more]

Hi! Awesome to have you!
I’ve recently been getting into poetry, but haven’t tried writing any myself. What has been the inspiration for your latest poem?
I love writing short stories! Like Jodi, I’ve been trying to write at least one a month, however the past few days I feel like the creative writing part of my brain has taken a…[Read more]

“If you could have a mythological creature as a writing partner which would it be? How would your stories change by them contributing?”
This may sound like a strange answer, but my choice is a Pegasus. One, because they’re super cool. Two, I love horses. Three, flying sounds AWESOME. Four Pegusi seem smart and creative. Five, they seem like the…[Read more]

Great question! And one I personally don’t have the answer to. XD
However, my brother has been making fictional maps for years so he probably has some good advice. I’ll get back to you as soon as I ask him.

Yep! That’s how you put the green line there for quotes! Thanks Abigail!
Why do these sorta-kinda-almost work together? I bet there are even more interesting ways to organize each of the sentences into other interesting stories. XD

I dare you to post the very last sentence you’ve wrote in a story with no context.
And no cheating!
I know it’s tempting to quickly write an eloquent sentence before participating but DON’T! Be 100% honest and post the very last sentence you wrote. (Unless there is anything inappropriate of course).
Okay, I’m going to tag some…[Read more]

Kathleen replied to the topic What's a tip or tactic that has helped you recently with writing? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years, 6 months ago
That’s really smart! Because some weeks are so much different than others, so there’s no point to being disappointed that you didn’t write a much as some other week, especially if there is just so much going on.
I know right! I love that you don’t have to be fully committed to the long process of writing a full…[Read more]

What’s a tip or tactic (small or large) that has helped you recently with your writing?
For me it’s short stories,Recently I’ve been writing at least one short story a month, and it’s really help me with so many things in my writing.
It’s helped me think up creative story ideas more easily, because I have to think of new ones all the time to…[Read more]

It’s really cool how you world build! Unfortunately, it’s something I lack a lot when it comes to writing. I’m getting better at is as I go along, but I tend to just focus on everything about characters, metaphors, theme, and all the philosophical stuff of the story. XD Though I absolutely love stories with immersive and complex…[Read more]

Cool! I’ve heard a lot about For King and Country.
Very harsh indeed! But also so interesting. How to you go about writing a story? Like, how do you go from an idea to a finished novel? I’d love to hear you process.

Hi! It’s awesome to have you! I’m Kathleen, and I totally understand the struggle of getting the story in your head out some what readable on paper. XD But shifting my focus on the characters and writing the story from their eyes and mind always helps me a lot.
It’s so cool all the worldbuilding you did for your story. Does worldbuilding…[Read more]

Kathleen replied to the topic Need help in creating my Indian MC in the forum Characters 3 years, 6 months ago
All the same principles that make any character good applies to an Indian character. So I suggest doing a lot of research on what makes a character well-developed, complex, and what makes them feel real. There’s a lot of articles on KP about that.
And then I’d do a lot of research on what kind of Indian she is. Everything surrounding…[Read more]

Kathleen replied to the topic Is this a good title for my fantasy novel ? in the forum Fantasy 3 years, 6 months ago
What’s the premise of the story? I think if I knew a bit about what it’s about I could give you a better answer on if the title fits.
Also, congrats on finishing your novel! Is this the first book you’ve finished or have you completed others before?

An amazing story idea pops into your head: What do you do?
For me, if it’s an idea that would work for a short story, I try to write down the summary of the whole story from beginning to end because I find with short story ideas, I usually think of the ending pretty soon after I think of the beginning.I try to write it down as quickly as…[Read more]
