Hey everyone,
Could you help me in understanding how I can craft a good Indian character ?
More specifically a young Indian girl around the age of 12.

First of all, hi and welcome! *waves* I’m JC.
The main tip I would give is to first research the customs and traditions your character would be surrounded by. For example, festivals? Religion/spirituality? Rituals? Celebrations? You could start by researching the domestic responsibilities of girls of that age group, or how females were viewed in society.
Hope this helped a bit! 🙂
May 10, 2021 at 8:06 pm #99407Well, I can’t pretend to be an expert in this department as I’ve never written for an Indian before (I’m assuming she’s a Native American?), but I’ll do my best to help! 😀 Which part of your character do you feel needs work?
May 10, 2021 at 8:14 pm #99409All the same principles that make any character good applies to an Indian character. So I suggest doing a lot of research on what makes a character well-developed, complex, and what makes them feel real. There’s a lot of articles on KP about that.
And then I’d do a lot of research on what kind of Indian she is. Everything surrounding her culture, family, beliefs, time period, and country.
Then, when you write the story, write it from her eyes and mind. How she views the world and it’s events. How is it unique to how she grew up, her experiences, and her beliefs?
Also, a tip is to read historical fiction about Indians and see how they do it.
I hope this helps!
