@ava-blue Yeah that’s cool with me 😎 As long as we get started, that is 😅
I’mma come back this afternoon or evening – school’s about to make me go crazy – and I’ll try starting the roleplay then. Maybe we’ll all just start in different areas of an abandoned city, and meet up with each other while exploring it.
And the interpretation of the city…[Read more]

Okay, as soon as @folith-feolin has chosen a character (no pressure 😉 we can choose a setting.
This might sound like a morbid suggestion, but what about the sewers? Keiryn is from underground, so he could have gotten lost and ended up near the surface. The Great Spy of Gulley is obviously a pirate – and, cough cough – sewers have great…[Read more]

@mineralizedwritings He sounds perfect, and what writer isn’t super specific with their character descriptions? XD I mean, some people don’t care, but it’s important. Great drawing, by the way!

I knooow, there are so many protagonists who don’t have good family situations, and it’s just thought of as “normal.” It’s really disappointing, because it’s lazy in both the moral and storytelling departments. NOT that having orphan characters is a bad thing; many of my characters don’t even know their parents. You just need…[Read more]

@power First come, first serve to the gold, ye lousy piece o’ sea foam… Have at me, and I’ll see what a whiskery old swordfish can do!
The same is true for me. The other roleplay’s going at the speed of lighting. I said to myself, ‘girl, unless you’ve got both pistols loaded in your belt, you aren’t going to survive over there.’ What can I say,…[Read more]

Autumn is in full swing – leaves, sweaters, a good cup of rhubarb tea, and NaNoWriMo coming up! I’m planning for a 20k word count through my first NaNo, which I may or may not actually write 😉 At some point, the keyboard has to fly, in order that an imaginary flower can bloom. Poetic, huh?

I float over the Character Castle roleplay every once in a while, and thought it might be nice to try out another set of characters in a different roleplay. 😊
No, I’m not thinking of a big project; just some fun banter and the occasional sword fight, if necessary (or even if not 😉). One on one is how I usually play, because it’s less confusing -…[Read more]

I’m a little late to the party, but I can still offer some glitter 😎
I can definitely see what you’re going for with the arranged marriage thing, and that’s a cool dynamic, especially when the two are younger, and they’re more like siblings than anything else.
Personally I would close the age gap just a little, or even switch ages if I found it…[Read more]

Oh, and my current WIP, Whale Keepers, is fantasy, but definitely falls in the WonderFic camp more than anything else.

@koshka Puddleglum is the best character ever. He’s practically the source of all my half-hearted optimistic humor.
@mineralizedwritings The City of Ember is beautiful! It’s influenced a couple of my dream WIPs (confidential, of course).
A lot of books influence me. But my inspirations fall under two catagories: Fantasy and (what I call) W…[Read more]

This is also probably the last chapter I’m posting on here, for reasons such as plot-changing, editing, and just because the story really begins on the next chapter 🙂

I agree with @e-m-trepke that it’s important for your MCs to have clear motivations. There’s this other Youtube writer called Abbie Emmons. I highly recommend binge-watching her videos. They’re super fun to watch! She emphasizes character development and teaches you how to apply it to every plot device on the planet. I’ve never looked at plot the…[Read more]

It’s nice to hear that there’s someone else who doesn’t enjoy that series. I’ve only read the first book (starting the second) and there are all sorts of problems. The main character’s specialness, some info-dumping and a few questionable situations – like going off with this boy she didn’t know, keeping stuff from her parents for…[Read more]

@folith-feolin That’s a bucket-load of books 🙂 How far are you into writing them?

Enid replied to the topic Writing growth ruts and what to do about them in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 11 months ago
@folith-feolin That is definitely a valid point, especially with the example you gave. Many deaths don’t have the force they should have because readers have developed an immunity to the “emotion-pulling” technique. A few new formulas are in order.
Also, this is a random rabbit trail, but what is your opinion of Keeper of the Lost Cities?

I’ve never been plateaued before either – I’m honestly still learning everything I can at this point 🙂 – but the first thing that comes to mind is, start something new. It doesn’t need to be wildly different, like switching from fiction to non-fiction. Just a story that has a different voice or style of writing.
My writing has…[Read more]
