SeekJustice replied to the topic Using a Pen Name: Yay or Nay? in the forum Publishing & Platform 4 years, 10 months ago
I think, privacy reasons aside, I would only go for a pen name to disguise the fact that I was a woman, but as a couple of other people have said, that’s less of an issue than it used to be. For example, if I was to write YA that’s a female dominated area of publishing and being labeled as a Chelsea wouldn’t be a bad thing at all.…[Read more]

My secret is…that I don’t. I literally don’t, if I can help it *hides in shame*. I’m still trying to think of a name for the city in the last book I drafted. The book I’m currently writing has absolutely no names. The fantasy novel before last has a world literally called the Dreamland (though this has a meaning and significance…[Read more]

@ariel-f I remember one of my favorite manga artists saying that if the story he’s writing doesn’t surprise him, then he stops writing it. And I am always surprised and astounded by his work. Truly wise words.
To be honest, I struggle with this a lot. I honestly really dislike the characters I made back when I started writing (well, not dislike,…[Read more]

@writerlexi1216 I believe in using a pen name, as I am right now. I just do it for privacy reasons, as this name is still as hard to pronounce as my previous name. (Not me never saying this name out loud, haha….)
Anyways, I think that A.M. Williams sounds really cool and elegant! A.M. reminds me of the morning.

@ariel-f A lot of the time I try to put myself in the character’s shoes, or really get in their head. If I was that character, how would I feel if [fill in the blank] happened to me? Getting really deep into their internal conflict, backstories, lies they believe, their values, etc. really helps them come alive and connects them to both author and…[Read more]

@keilah-h Ahh I haven’t gotten very deep into the Tron franchise yet but Tron: Legacy is my favorite favorite movie and will always hold a special place in my heart. You draw really well, by the way!

@godlyfantasy12
That’s so exciting! 😀 I think a home page, blog page, contact page, and a page for your WIPs is sufficient. That’s so awesome that you’re creating a website! -

@nova21 Personally, I don’t really think about themes, I just write, and then hope someone can tell me what the themes are, because I’m really bad at discerning what my themes are. Have you seen Story Embers’ latest article? I think that might help you. Let me send you the link (and hope that the forum doesn’t eat my…[Read more]

@not-so-secret-secret-assassin Sounds epic. I will bring brownie cookies (my specialty) and my gift shall be my typical set of questions.
The games sound awesome; I’m willing to give it a try.
Oo, face reveal, how fun!
Hm, not sure what to wear. I think I shall do one of those “Boring Halloween” things and dress up as a lady who’s waiting for a…[Read more]

Lin replied to the topic How did you come up with the idea for your current WIP? in the forum General Writing Discussions 4 years, 10 months ago
@joy-caroline It’d take too long for me to recount 13 Ways so I’ll just give a quick glossary over some short stories… I guess most of my ideas stem from like images I see in my brain or something that I’m reading at the moment. For example, I was reading a manga and about halfway I thought, What if I did something like this too, except not…[Read more]

Lin replied to the topic Writing the Climax in the forum General Writing Discussions 4 years, 10 months ago
@writerlexi1216 As a fellow pantser, I am probably not qualified to answer this question. Most of the time I can kind of guess where the climax is by seeing where the falling action starts. But personally I feel like my climaxes are a bit on the bland side.
I think that what I can tell you is go for it, and edit later. After you write it you can…[Read more]
