About two years ago, my mom was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma. It was pretty bad, she had to go to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas (a LONG ways from Montana where we live!) and get some treatment because her cancer was really severe. Mantle Cell Lymphoma alone is very aggressive, and my mom also had the blastoid variation which makes it almost impossible for the cancer to respond to any treatment. I didn’t know how bad things were until it was all over but even from the beginning it was pretty bad.

There were so many times she would get treatment, and the cancer would disappear for a couple weeks, and then completely take over again. Finally after about a year, she went to Mayo Clinic in Minnesota to try to get it under enough control that they could do CAR-T (which basically reengineers your cells to fight cancer cells and is almost guaranteed to work). CAR-T is pretty intense though, and it’s usually a last resort after all other treatment options have failed.

Long story short, CAR-T didn’t work, and the cancer just took over again. My mom ended up passing away shortly after Thanksgiving last year. It was pretty hard, lots and lots of people were praying for her to be healed, and we believe that God could have healed her, but sometimes God doesn’t always answer prayers the way we want.

It’s been a lot of ups and downs. Me, my dad and my two siblings have had a lot of changes and we’re still trusting God for everything!

If you have more questions about it all or just need to rant about how much cancer sucks, feel free to tag me literally ANYTIME! I’m very open to talking about my story and things with my mom, it’s a way God can use what I went through for good!

I’m Sara! I’ve been on here for about 4 years, but the last two years I haven’t been very active. I currently open KP once like every two months lol

I’ve also been working on the same novel since my freshman year (now I’m a senior) and I have yet to finish a single draft. Just ask the other people on here, I change my story every week 😂

After much thought (and casually disappearing again) I have decided what I want to do.

I’m still working on developing the plotline, as it has changed a lot.

I’m not sure if I’ll ever finish this story because I change it so much, but I honestly just write for fun so I guess if it’s fun, I should be allowed to change it as many times as I want 😂😂😂

I realized that having all the races with powers, and having a race without powers wouldn’t make much sense, other than to make things inconvenient for my characters. Like WHY would there be all these powerful people, and then a different race that’s just normal? Idk, it just doesn’t make sense. And it also doesn’t make sense to have both Paynes AND humans. Like if there’s humans and powerful races, it makes it seem more sci-fi, because if it’s a different world, how would humans get there? And it brings up more unanswerable questions, like is it a different universe? Different planet? Does it take place on earth? And I don’t want to get into all that. I want this to be focused on fantasy, NOT sci-fi (nothing against sci-fi, I just don’t want to write it, lol)

So I’ve decided that everyone in this world is born with powers. However, if someone goes bankrupt, they have no choice but to sell themselves as a slave (like to work for rich people or in the mines, etc.) And when someone becomes a slave, their powers are taken away from them. Like for example, an Aquino slave has their powers be taken away with fire, not enough to kill them but just enough to get rid of their powers. So anyone who doesn’t have powers is a slave.

People can also have their powers taken away as punishment for committing a crime. It’s mostly for humiliation and it’s normally pretty painful.

 

This gives my characters a new backstory.

If you guys remember, Lilitu’s parents are normal but they turn INTO Pythonos in order to try to cure his sickness. And when he gets better, they are believing so many lies that they don’t care about Lilitu anymore and abandon him. And that’s how Azazel and Indie adopt him. Well, that stays the same, except Lilitu is born an Aquino, and instead of abandoning him, his parents sell him as a slave. I’m thinking that Cassian will see him at a slave auction and buy him in order to save him. That’s how Lilitu is going to be adopted by their family.

And Sef’s story basically stays the same. (except I’m getting rid of the part where her mom is abused and gets pregnant because it doesn’t add that much to the story.) It’s just her and her mom, and they run out of money, so Sef decides to become a slave so that Neveah can use the money to take care of herself. Neveah is going to be struggling with depression, so Sef feels a responsibility to protect her and doesn’t tell Neveah about her plan to become a slave.

And that’s how Iver purchases her and uses her to make him more powerful.

So that’s basically what I’ve managed to come up with so far lolll

Umm guys I need some help.

I think my story has outgrown all the powers and stuff. it just makes it complicated!!

The more I read books nowadays there are a LOT of books out there similar to mine. Like, there are all the rich people with powers, and they have control over the people who don’t have powers. And somehow a girl without powers always overthrows the rich people without powers and saves her people. which is how my story kind of goes.

Do you think it would be good to have the only people with powers be the Pythonos? I would still keep the different races, but just make it so everyone didn’t have powers. (It’s also really hard to write about people with powers without making it really cringe and cliche.) Everyone would still dislike the Paynes. And the Pythonos would still have powers.

Actually it might make it hit harder when the Pythonos come and take over, because nobody else has powers.

What do you think? I am gonna miss the powers because they were so fun! But I’m just trying to figure out how to make my book less cliche lol
