Hi! Awesome to have you here in the Kingdom!
Fantasy is great! I pretty much love any genre, as long as the characters good.
Do you have any favorite books?
And when did you start writing, and what made you start?
I’ve been writing on and off since I was seven. I started partially because I was inspired by all the novels and stories…[Read more]

For some reason, I feel like I’m getting a better idea of who your guys’ character more from these three questions than most character questionnaire sheets, haha. XD
I’ve never been particularly interested in books about werewolves, but after reading you character descriptions, that may be changing…
Just by d…[Read more]

Hi! Welcome to Kingdom Pen! I’m Jodi, another writing intern here at KP. I like writing fantasy fiction, historical fiction, and dystopian fiction when I’m not working on school and articles 🙂
Here are some welcome questions for you:
1. What are your top three favorite books right now?
2. How did you become a fan of the fantasy genre?…[Read more]

“Take the three main characters of a recent story you wrote: which one would you go to brunch with, which one would you rob a bank with, and which one would you pull an elaborate prank on?”
Hmmm… Okay, I take the story I’m writing with my siblings ’cause it’s currently my favorite.
Here are three of our six main characters.

Kathleen replied to the topic Anyone else feel like all your story ideas are beyond your skill level? in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 5 months ago
I’m a bit late to this topic and everyone else had great advice, but I just decided to pitch in my thoughts just in case it can help at all. 🙂
My best advice for handling darker, grittier things, is not the most helpful advice because a lot of people can’t do it, but to have some kinda first hand experience with it, or be really…[Read more]

Hi! Awesome to have you!
I’ve recently been getting into poetry, but haven’t tried writing any myself. What has been the inspiration for your latest poem?
I love writing short stories! Like Jodi, I’ve been trying to write at least one a month, however the past few days I feel like the creative writing part of my brain has taken a…[Read more]

Hi! Welcome to Kingdom Pen! It’s so nice to meet you. I’m Jodi, one of the writing interns for KP. When I’m writing my stories, I usually write fantasy, historical fiction, and sometimes dystopian fiction.
I’m excited to read your poems! I love the poetry Kingdom Pen publishes. Short stories can be super fun–I’ve been trying to do one a…[Read more]

Jodi Maile replied to the topic How to make your plot more exciting? in the forum Plotting 3 years, 5 months ago
This is the story of my life. I’ve struggled with this during so many stories. My best advice to renew your interest in the story would be to do any of these things:
Up the stakes
Let some characters encounter the consequences of their choices and have to navigate those consequences
Give the protagonist a specific amount of time…[Read more]

“If you could have a mythological creature as a writing partner which would it be? How would your stories change by them contributing?”
This may sound like a strange answer, but my choice is a Pegasus. One, because they’re super cool. Two, I love horses. Three, flying sounds AWESOME. Four Pegusi seem smart and creative. Five, they seem like the…[Read more]

Hey there! I love a good mystery, and some of my favorite novels are legal thrillers XD
I have some ideas for you:
What if Jocelyn wasn’t the main suspect at first? What if there was another suspect who was the main suspect until they were killed, and then Jocelyn was framed for both deaths?
What if someone important/close…[Read more]

Great question! And one I personally don’t have the answer to. XD
However, my brother has been making fictional maps for years so he probably has some good advice. I’ll get back to you as soon as I ask him.

Oh no! Maps! Haha I am definitely not the best at making maps. What I usually do is draw them on a whiteboard, then take a picture of that rough drawing, then do my best to actually stay true to what I have drawn (since I sometimes switch locations around, so it gets difficult to just stick with one basic landmass until I’ve…[Read more]

Yep! That’s how you put the green line there for quotes! Thanks Abigail!
Why do these sorta-kinda-almost work together? I bet there are even more interesting ways to organize each of the sentences into other interesting stories. XD

I needed to find a way to get my revenge.
Yeah…not that exciting. It looks pretty bland without the paragraph leading up to it XD

I dare you to post the very last sentence you’ve wrote in a story with no context.
And no cheating!
I know it’s tempting to quickly write an eloquent sentence before participating but DON’T! Be 100% honest and post the very last sentence you wrote. (Unless there is anything inappropriate of course).
Okay, I’m going to tag some…[Read more]

Jodi Maile replied to the topic What's a tip or tactic that has helped you recently with writing? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years, 5 months ago
I’ve only written one short story so far, since I started last month, but I was really proud of it and I want to keep going! And yes–even a sentence can be counted as progress! Given my random and busy schedule, allowing myself to feel happy about writing smaller amounts has been really necessary and helpful. 🙂

Kathleen replied to the topic What's a tip or tactic that has helped you recently with writing? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years, 5 months ago
That’s really smart! Because some weeks are so much different than others, so there’s no point to being disappointed that you didn’t write a much as some other week, especially if there is just so much going on.
I know right! I love that you don’t have to be fully committed to the long process of writing a full…[Read more]

@ariel-f Hi! Welcome to Kingdom Pen! I’m Jodi. I was homeschooled too, and I also love wolves! I went to a White Wolf Sanctuary once on the Oregon Coast, a few hours away from where I live in Central Oregon. They were so beautiful!
