I’ve met Josiah twice I think. First when we had a week long KP retreat at our house, then again at my brother’s wedding. Even though I wasn’t apart of the KP team at the time of the retreat, it was really fun having all the KP members stay at our house. I think they were supposed to be working, but they were just eating…[Read more]

The characters are good in The Wingfeather saga? Now I must read it. Characters are what make or break a story for me.
Oh, yes. Those filler episodes. XD I mean, they definitely aren’t the best of AtLA, but I somehow still enjoy them. (Probably because I like the characters). Do you have a particular episode of the series that s…[Read more]

Oooh, yes. Characters and subplots. Those can so quickly get out of hand. XD It’s cool that your planning on rewriting one of your first novels! What’s the premise?
Haha. I’m pretty sure that I too have some very cringey dialogue haunting my laptop as well. Dialogue is still something today that I struggle with…[Read more]

Hi! And welcome to the KP forum! I’m Kathleen and about a year younger than you and am a part of the KP team.
Congrats on making it to the final stretch of your novel! So many of my WIPs die out before they ever get close to the climax. Your premise is really interesting and definitely a book I’d want to read. Sci-fi has always…[Read more]

Man, I could use some of your confidence. XD I usually have the opposite problem. I sometimes get so down about my writing abilities that it discourages me from writing.
Well, out of all the mistakes to make, jumping into to writing super early isn’t a bad one to do! At least starting before ready is better than not…[Read more]

What’s the biggest mistake you made when you first started writing?
One word.MacGuffins.
Mc·Guf·fin
/məˈɡəfin/
noun
an object or device in a movie or a book that serves merely as a trigger for the plot. For example of what a MacGuffin looks like in a story, “The hero must find the sacred diamond Keys of the Ancient King Pluggin-Ploggin to un…[Read more]

Although I only play video games once maybe twice a week I fully agree that they can be really great at sparking creativity. I was actually thinking of writing a story based on one of my favorite video games. The great thing about video game stories is that they’re usually never fully fleshed out or explored so there is a lot of…[Read more]

I think I’m going to switch it up and answer these questions from my villain’s perspective. Bwaahahah! This’ll be fun.
Would your character rather be tickled or chased?
Kai would rather be chased. It’s part of his daily routine already.
Would your character rather eat really spicy things or really bitter things?
He seems…[Read more]

Coming from someone who has read quite a few “over the top” beginnings to novels, this is great!
If you’re worried that it’s too over-dramatic, just make sure what happens next fully follows through with the drama you’re alluding to.

Yes, not only do I get to sometimes dream about my stories when I think about them as I fall asleep, but I also fall asleep faster too. Thinking about real life can often keep me up at night. XD
Yeah, niether of my parents are readers as well. In fact, they don’t even care much for movies either. (Like, how?), They probably watch like…[Read more]

I’m a bit late to the party, but I’ve just gotta say that this is a great idea @gracie-j ! Bravo to your amazing ideas.
I will definetly be checking out and reviewing as many of these works as I can.
Unfortunetly dispite finishing a few books, they have yet to be published, so yeah, nothing much to promote for me. XD Though that may not be the…[Read more]

Oooh, why didn’t I think of dreams? While falling asleep is one of my favorite times to create or play out story ideas. Have you ever gotten a story idea from an actual dream?

Yep, that’s a premise! And woah, seven books? That’s quite the daunting quest you’re on! What made you decide to write seven books for the series?

What’s something not related to writing, that inspires the most story ideas?
Although story ideas pop-up randomly while doing the strangest activities for me, there is something that almost always inspires many stories ideas that is completely unrelated to writing. And that is, staring out a window on a long car drive while listen to music. It’s…[Read more]

No, but sorta yes? Since I’ve never done NaNoWriMo before, I decided that this year I’d do a Half-NaNoWriMo, (sorta like a half marathon), and write 25k in November. And next year I’ll aim to write 50k for NaNoWriMo.
At the moment, I’m not a super fast writer, so I don’t think I can commit the amount of time necessary to write 50k…[Read more]

Hi! I’m Kathleen and it’s awesome to have you in the Kingdom of Pen!
I can totally relate. The first novel was definitely the hardest. But once I finally finished it, writing became so much easier. (There’s something about the first novel that is particularly difficult).

Porcupines for Barrett. He’d rather be in pain than be around something smelly.
Also, he’d rather edit my books. He likes to make things better than they were.
He’d take all the revenge. And then some.
Barrett would much rather be killed by his worst enemy. He would never hurt his best friend.…[Read more]

Rom-coms aren’t usually my taste, but Lady Samantha sounds really interesting. Her dressing up as a maid to spy sounds totally up my alley. XD
Yeah, your probably right. I’ve read like, umm… ZERO romances, so no wonder they seem hard to write.
