Jodi Maile replied to the topic New Book Ideas!! in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 4 months ago
@godlyfantasy12 Hey, those sound great! I’m really intrigued by the first idea, and the second sounds like an interesting and fresh way to dive into a fairytale retelling.
I’m currently writing a series of short stories that are either fairytale retellings (that I come up with ideas for at random times lol) or are just random ideas that I come up…[Read more]

Sorry I’m late responding! I’ve been on vacation the past week and haven’t had access to my notifications. I don’t have a blog yet, but in the next couple months I’m planning on creating one (hopefully it will be up by this fall or sooner)! Yay! XD I’ll be sure to put out the link for everyone once it’s up.
Do you have a blog?

Jodi Maile replied to the topic Using a Pen Name: Yay or Nay? in the forum Publishing & Platform 3 years, 4 months ago
Ooh, I really like A.M. Williams. It does feel similar to L.M. Montgomery, which is also an elegant-sounding name. Alexa Williams sounds pretty too, though. In the end, I think it’s up to you and what you like best. I don’t know if the pen name would really matter unless you had already published a bunch of stories in a genre that…[Read more]

Hi Molly! Welcome to Kingdom Pen! My name is Jodi and I write fantasy and historical fiction, as well as some dystopian fiction when I feel like it. Some of my favorite authors are Tolkien, James Scott Bell, and Andrew Peterson. In my spare time, I try to write one short story a month, and some of my hobbies are bicycling, paddle boarding,…[Read more]

Jodi Maile replied to the topic Help Please in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 5 months ago
Ugh, I totally feel this struggle. It does get more difficult to handle characters transitioning to a new world when there is more than one of them, as well. It isn’t impossible, it just gets more challenging.
It sounds like the characters are waking up to a day where there may not be much else to do aside from introduce them t…[Read more]

@godlyfantasy12 Wow! I loved this poem, you did such a great job with it. I was also surprised to hear that you don’t write poetry–this is really good!
Now, this is coming from an amateur in poetry, so disregard my comments if they don’t apply:
I noticed that there is no exclamation point in the second “Evil queen! Evil queen!” section here (I…[Read more]

@faith-q That sounds like an interesting character! JC and Issabelle have already said most of what I was going to say, so here are a couple little tips I have for you (and @gracie-j too!):
I suggest you take a look at the stories you mentioned and watch/read them with a notebook on hand, writing down what stands out to you the most about the…[Read more]

Jodi Maile replied to the topic Self publishing or traditional? in the forum Publishing & Platform 3 years, 5 months ago
Hi JC! I have also always thought I would go the traditional route, but I’ve recently decided that self publishing is for me. This has been a long road to this decision (over ten years now!) and I’ll explain why I think self publishing is the way to go:
I thought that traditional publishing would help market my books for me. Sur…[Read more]

A few other notes
because I apparently can’t keep them all in one postIt has occurred to me that no war was mentioned, and that I assumed there was a war because Ember’s brother was in the army and Ember’s family kept a bunch of weapons around. So, disregard my comments if there is no war…
Also, your sword fighting scene was great! I was act…[Read more]

Hi @nanisnook! I finished reading your chapters and wrote up some of my thoughts:
I really liked your chapters. Ember is a likable main character and her brother is also likable! I did feel a bit like the chapters went by pretty quickly with a lot of action (which was nicely done, by the way!) but not quite as many internal moments to pause and…[Read more]
