<p>Hmm&#8230; What I can think of that might help you get yourself more into writing descriptions is to describe things in your POV character&#8217;s voice (unless you&#8217;re writing in omniscient) so that it shows character as well.</p>
<p>Avoid boring and cliche descriptions and make those sentences just as snappy and quotable as your dialogue. <p>I think it&#8217;s all right since you are planning for your protagonist to have character development and a character arc. That your protagonist may not be very likable at the start may in fact be a good thing (because it&#8217;s terribly boring to read about impossibly perfect human beings who can do no wrong).</p>

<p>Some more normal names might be <em>Esther, Ariel, Cordelia, Lyra, Maia, Nova</em> (fun fact: my mom almost named my little sister <em>Nova</em>!), <em>Astra</em>, <em>Dara,</em> and Elanor.</p>
