@libby Terms of endearment! Those are another thing I asked about when my post didn’t work. Are Japanese terms of endearment standalone like the English “sweetheart”? Or do they attach to names?

@libby I had a whole response to this latest post shortly after you posted it and I just came back to find that the whole thing vanished. *headdesks* (And it’s still giving me issues now. Urg.)
First off, thank you again for all the information! It’s super helpful, and really interesting to learn about the different ways the language works.…[Read more]

@e-k-seaver Oh, oops. XD
Mm… I’m not sure? My route was kind of unconventional–I knowingly put less effort into my short stories because I know they’re not what I’m focused on and I wanted to put out something decent but not necessarily stellar while I worked on novels–but… it worked for me? Those short stories were a great opportunity f…[Read more]

@joy-caroline Mine too! I should maybe clarify I don’t really listen to much opera opera? Phantom of the Opera is about as official as I get with my opera. I don’t listen to much of the super dramatic stage opera sort of stuff. I’m more using the term incorrectly to refer to anything that goes super ridiculously high. XD But yes! Phantom of the O…[Read more]

@e-k-seaver Since I only do line edits and copy edits, I tried to choose a reasonable price based on what I saw others doing while also bumping it up a little so I charge based on what I’m good at (sort of “making up for” the fact that I don’t do developmental edits, which are generally a little more expensive). But it looks like I got the balance…[Read more]

@e-k-seaver Ah. I think I was underestimating how many fewer pages a novella can be. XD
And also working off of my own pricing, which I might need to adjust down a little bit.I haven’t worked with her yet, but she’s tops on my list for this next book. I’d be curious what she says on the line vs. content editing front, if you’d like to share…[Read more] -

@e-k-seaver That looks really low for an editor. What type of edits are you looking at?
And your cover price looks high. Poole Publishing makes good-looking covers (depending to some degree on the genre, it looks like) for $150 at the most expensive. A $400-$600 cover might give you more of a quality guarantee, but you can go cheaper without…[Read more]

@libby I really only dabbled in the ocarina. My dad had one, along with a book of LotR songs for ocarina, so I played around with it for a little bit and then got distracted and haven’t really touched it since… I’m really bad with sticking to instruments. XD
@joy-caroline Everything? XD I actually have a lot of fun singing in a variety of…[Read more]

@kathleenramm I don’t have the discipline to grow callouses for a string instrument (I liked violin for a while, but then I decided the callouses would be too much work XD), I don’t have good enough breath support for wind instruments (except ocarina, for some reason; I’m okay-ish at ocarina), I don’t read music very well, and I like/am good at…[Read more]

@godlyfantasy12 I’m only familiar with KDP, personally, so I can’t help you much when it comes to self-pub routes. I think Ingramspark does hardcovers, so that might be a good option since that’s important to you. But I don’t know anything about Barnes and Noble Press, so it might be another workable option for that. The proof bar is annoying. XP…[Read more]

@e-k-seaver Well… making money off of your work is going to be kind of unpredictable regardless, I think. But as long as you can figure out who your target audience is and market to them, the extra personal aspect of self-pub marketing is actually likely to serve you well. The nice thing about indie publishing is that you can write what you want…[Read more]

@gracie-j Also, if you make this a recurring thing, it might be fun in the future to supply a list of prompts and make it a little more specific and potentially more challenging!

@lewilliams I have a bunch of posts about worldbuilding, if you want to give those a look and see if any of them are helpful. The blog Unusual Things also has some great worldbuilding posts. And Scout’s advice was good, too! Having a focusing point can be super helpful. (KP doesn’t like links, so I’ll link to my blog in a second post.…[Read more]

@devastate-lasting @joy-caroline
*nods* At this point I don’t think there’s anything I could say that wouldn’t be repeating myself, so I was stepping back anyway (for real this time, lol). I think this is the last point we could stop amicably, as far as this topic is concerned, so that’s definitely best. ;P
