Madelyn replied to the topic Writing a series where the books aren't technically related…? in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 5 months ago
That idea sounds awesome! I’ve seen unrelated books in a series done before successfully.
For example, The Knights of Arrethrae Series by Chuck Black is a collection of books that follow different knights pursuing the same cause. The characters don’t (with one exception) cross over into the other books, and the series is still…[Read more]

I had to hop on as soon as I saw the title XD
Older Classics:
- The Wide, Wide World by Susan Warner. I really really love this book; it is a slow read but so worth it.
- Jane Austen Books: Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Emma, Mansfield Park, Persuasion, and Northanger Abbey.
- Jane Erye by Charlotte Bronte (though, to…

Madelyn replied to the topic Keep going or jump ahead? in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 5 months ago
Hi there!! @nanisnook
When I’m stuck on a scene, I’ll usually brainstorm out the problem. If something feels off or I’m really not getting into the scene, it really helps to dig down to the root of the issue before continuing. If I try to write through something like that, the problem will often show through my writing.
Jumping ahead can be the…[Read more]

I’m not sure if we’re always doing “grammatical sentences”, so I’m just going to share the last part that I wrote ;P
I let go of hope so long ago when I thought it was fulfilled.
I had really just given it up when I lost the patience to see it through.

I really liked your points about rebellious characters and domineering girls. I see that a lot in stories nowadays (especially Disney), and I believe it’s something that needs to be called out.
Also, I agree with your points about how men and women are portrayed wrongly in fiction. Strong female characters should not mean physically str…[Read more]

Hey, @kathleenramm!
For me, it would have to be the selfish characters. They may not always be blatantly selfish, but I see it sneaking into fiction today through the dramatically misunderstood, rebellious, or discontent characters. Those kinds of characters encourage bad behavior and focusing on oneself, so definitely something I would love to…[Read more]

1. Don’t let the mistakes tear you down, but rather build you up as a writer. The fun thing about writing is you never stay in the same place skill-wise. There’s…[Read more]

Hi!!
Could there be someone who falsely witnesses against her? Say, someone who has reason to hurt her or maybe the actual murder trying to protect themself?
On a similar note, maybe someone powerful in the background pulled strings to have her convicted?
