Hey there! Although I’ve never really put my finger on it, I think I’ve struggled with a similar problem.
Here are some thoughts:
Thought #1
It sounds like what you’re saying is that you start with this dream/vision/feeling for a story, but writing it down doesn’t feel like it captures that feeling. Maybe the issue is that the fee…[Read more]

(@scoutfinch180 Very good point!)
My eyes fell on a bottle of chipotle chili power perched upon a brand-new package of double-sided tape.
A rescue? I think not…this called for a trap.
(Question: with the “three sentence rule”, does that mean three grammatical sentences or more like three lines? Mixes of dialogue and fragment sentences make i…[Read more]

“Watch out for the rotten spot,” Mirabelle warned a full five seconds late.
“Thanks; thanks a bunch,” Â I groaned.
A tap on the kitchen window snapped us both back to reality.

@cathrynv
Hey there, Cathryn! That’s awesome! Have you ever read The Silmarillion by Tolkien? It’s a bit of a hard read, but I really enjoyed it.
Ooh, I love the guitar! What kind of music do you like to play on it?
I love your answers 😀 That’s a good idea, the whole publishing/editing company! I love editing too; It’s really fun and even r…[Read more]

Hello!!
I joined the Kingdom Pen forum back in December and made a few appearances, but I only just now got around to introducing myself!
Writing has been a passion of mine for a long time, but Kingdom Pen was really the place that encouraged me to get serious about it. About 4 years ago, I began reading the articles, stories, and poetry― as w…[Read more]

Awesome! One Day More is such a climactic song, and it’s so cool how it ties all the stories together! 🙂
I’m really looking forward to reading the book! While I’ve read many spectacular modern books, it’s the old classics that really go deep and display true workmanship.
Yes, it’s interesting how Jean Valjean and Edmund Dantes go…[Read more]

I’m looking forward to reading it! I’ve heard the majority of the songs from the musical; I really like some of them! What are your favorites? Off the top of my head, I really like The Confrontation, On My Own, One Day More, and any part of a song that Gavroche sings 😉 I’ve also listened to the audio drama by Focus on the Family,…[Read more]

Glad to be of service!
Les Miserables is on my to-read list! I already know the story fairly well, but I’m looking forward to reading the actual book. Have you ever read The Count of Monte Cristo? It actually has a sort of similar story to Les Miserables.
Haha, I totally get having waaaay too many books to read! *glances at a pi…[Read more]

’tis I, the person who pops in randomly every once and a while to a forum thread and then disappears for another month or so
*one of these days I should actually start a topic and introduce myself*
Anyhow, I hope you don’t mind me popping on! I really love the type of character that you’re talking about (the deeply hurting and/or…[Read more]

Hey, I hope you don’t mind me popping in here!! Drawing maps is one of my favorite things to do, and I had to throw in a recommendation for How to Draw Fantasy Art and RPG Maps: Step by Step Cartography for Gamers and Fans by Jared Blando. It’s an amazing book on map-making, and great for inspiration!! I’d really recommend you get it f…[Read more]

Yep, IM Fell DW Pica is an amazing font! (though I gotta say, its name is a bit of a mouthful XD). I really enjoy its character because it often fits in well with my writing style.
That’s interesting that you’ve never tried that! It’s super fun to find a font for your chapter heading that reflects the character of your novel 🙂 On…[Read more]

I had to hop on here since I’m a font fanatic ;P
Great idea for a topic, by the way!
Times New Roman and Georgia are my go-to normal fonts (Arial is a little too plain for me), but lately, I’ve been trying slightly older looking and more dramatic fonts like Gentium Book Basic, Crimson Text, and IM Fell DW Pica (which is the most…[Read more]

Hey there!
I usually just make up a random word on the spot, but it helps to know what letter combinations you like to use. For example, I like fj, ae, ai, ay, ey, ei, yn, & yl, and I use them frequently in country names.
Lately, I’ve also been having “easter egg” names, names that have a meaning that only some people will notice.…[Read more]

No problem!
Did you know that Disney made a TV show for The Mysterious Benedict Society? They’ve only released two episodes so far, but it’s actually really (and surprisingly) good!
Happy reading!
