December 10, 2020 at 12:14 pm in reply to: Describe your writing process in 3 words. What are they and why? #877711. Fast
I usually write during NaNoWriMo, but outside of November I tend to write a book within four months. I outline for months, and then I write everything. And then…
2. Changes.
So many changes. Whether removing characters, replacing entire chapters, adding a new concept, or deepening a character arc, whenever I look back at my first drafts I just can’t stop laughing at how horrible they started out as.
3. Consistent
I write or edit every day, no matter what. It’s a big part of my writing journey to be able to press on and just keep moving forward with my stories.

I like this idea! Here is my brainstorming:
– write a character backstory in one sentence
– describe a new setting your character has never been to before. What do they notice first?/What grabs their attention?
– What is the villain’s family like?
– What is something the MC lost that they regret losing?
– how does your MC behave around children?
– Describe a scene/setting/etc only using taste and smell
– what is your MC’s favorite holiday?
– make a side character face their worst fear or what is the side character’s worst fear and why?
– if your MC could completely protect one person or thing for one full day, what or who would they protect?
– create a new kind of food for your character to enjoy
– what does your MC say when they are surprised?
– is there someone your MC wishes they would never see again? Who and why?

Nice to meet you! I live in British Columbia. I believe I started skiing at age 5. What sports do you do in Florida?
I started writing seriously at age 11 during a creative writing block at school, where I was just able to start writing anything. I had been a hardcore reader my whole childhood, and that led into my writing.
I have an editor, but not an agent yet. My editor will help me find an agent when I am done editing my book. I am so excited about the publishing process but a bit nervous because I haven’t learned any marketing skills.
Really? Cool! I will have to search for that blog. I do miss cookies. 🙂

Well, my professional editor said she would help me find an agent when I was done editing, so I will talk with her soon to learn more about the querying process.

November 27, 2020 at 10:31 am in reply to: What’s the most recent book/movie you read/watched that has inspired you? #87506Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson, because of the unique and original concept and good friendships between characters.
Fawkes by Nadine Brandes, because of the incredible historical fiction plot.

November 27, 2020 at 10:28 am in reply to: What’s the biggest mistake you made when you first started writing? #87505I used to include a new character every time I got bored with my story, and ended up with more than eighty characters tagging along with the MC to save the world. And all the characters were pretty much the same.

@nova21 My favorites are dragons!
@devastate-lasting My family has a pet dog, and my sister has a cat. I used to have a bird but it flew away. I like any foods without gluten, dairy, or eggs (I am sensitive to all of those, so anything that I can eat without feeling bad, I enjoy.) I really like The Hobbit movies and Star Wars, and animated ones as well like How To Train Your Dragon and the Lego Movies.@gracie-j I used to like cookies…unfortunately I found out last year that I am sensitive to lots of food including wheat, dairy, and eggs…so cookies are one of the worst foods for me to eat. Yes, I listen to fantasy instrumental music ALL the time when I write, specifically Peter Crowley or Dinas Emrys. I am getting close to finished updating all the developmental edits from my editor and am planning to start sending out query letters to agents in January 2021!
It’s so great to meet all three of you! What are your current writing projects about? What are you favorite and least favorite school subjects?

@nova21 Nice to meet you Ella!
I do lots of solo sports like biking and hiking, and go downhill skiing with my family. I played on my school basketball team for a couple years and tried synchronized swimming for two years as well.
Yep! I’ve won NaNoWriMo three times. I wrote two novellas instead of one novel for the first two years, and then last year I wrote two full novels…100,000 words in one month. That dried up my ability to write for a while afterward though, so I don’t think I’ll do it again. 🙂 I love NaNo. This November I am working on an editing goal instead. (My username is Riddleweaver)
I like mashed potatoes!
Where is the farthest away you have travelled? When did you start writing? What is your favorite animal/fantasy creature?

It’s really nice to meet you, Linyang!
Wow, really? That’s so neat! I think having a price for using magic makes it more interesting because characters have to really need something to risk losing time from their lives.
I enjoy reading Wings of Fire by Tui Sutherland, Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger, Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson, and How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell. Have you read any of those? What are some of your favorite books?
(I don’t know how to tag people yet so I hope you find this XD)

Thanksgiving was a while ago for me (I’m Canadian) but I believe it’s important to be grateful throughout the year, so: I am grateful for my sister, the power to use words to share a piece of myself, and for warm blankets.

I have been writing seriously for six years! Your project is so long! How do you keep track of everything?
