Linyang Zhang replied to the topic What's your biggest strength and weakness as a writer? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years, 1 month ago
@kathleenramm My biggest weakness is probably editing. Editing is the thing I’ve spent least time on. It always makes me feel like I’ve never edited enough lol.
Biggest strength? At this point, probably my prose. That’s the only thing I get consistently complimented on.

What’s your biggest strength and weakness as a writer?
For me, probably my biggest weakness is staying consistent. I usually write a bunch all at once and then ghost my story for weeks until my schedule is a bit more relaxed or I have a sudden burst of motivation and disregard sleep almost entirely, haha.So yeah, that’s something I’ve struggled…[Read more]

@kathleenramm I thought it was going to be more of a struggle between whether or not androids and humans have a difference and what it means to kill one… It took more of a 1984 direction, hhhh…

Haha, yeah, I can relate. But the stranger the story the more fun it is to write right?
Do you have a favorite of all the strange stories you’ve written?
That does sound like an really strange, but interesting book, haha.
My siblings and I often joke about certain things we have, do, or say that could be taken way out…[Read more]

@keilah-h Oh, it’s very good. Of course, it does require an acquired taste, but I love it a lot.

@kathleenramm I’m not sure if I’ve ever read something and thought, “That was strange.” But if I had to choose one I would choose Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? I was pretty confused throughout it, haha. I like it ok, but definitely not my favorite. Fahrenheit 451 all the way. Also, the way I read the synopsis and the way I thought that t…[Read more]

Linyang Zhang replied to the topic How to know if your book should be a standalone or series? in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 1 month ago
Me: I want to write a five part series. Let me come up with enough plot to fill it.
Also me: This plot idea feels like it’s gonna be a three part series.
That’s basically it haha. Depends on how much plot idea you have.

Linyang Zhang replied to the topic When you don't like the direction of your story… in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 1 month ago
@jodi-maile So sorry for being late, but I completely relate to you about the tone struggles, since I’m having them for one of my current works. I guess what I would say is either:
a) leave it alone for a very long time and start anew or something at some point
b) finish it, decide what you like or don’t like about it, and restart
c) leave it…[Read more]

What’s the strangest book you’ve ever read? Did you like it? Why or why not?
Probably the strangest book I’ve ever read was a book I read awhile ago… Alice in Wonderland.Take everything about a normal book then make it the complete opposite. That’s Alice in Wonderland for you.
One of my favorite things about this book is it’s a metaphor for…[Read more]

It took the form of a small cute kitten. Mirabelle, of course, awwed and ran over, picking it up before I could stop her.

Mirabelle crossed her arms “Wait, let me get this straight; your double ganger was blackmailing you and you were appeasing him with Chipotle?”
Milo’s double ganger’s smile widened “Yo, your sister is smart lol.”
“She’s ten, of course she’s smart; have you never met a ten year old before?”

Yeah, I really like how adding multiple POV you can explore different avenues of the story while adding a new flavor to the narrative.
What the most POV you’ve ever had in one story?
It’s really cool how you split up POV with your sister like that! My siblings and I might do that in the future, but right now…[Read more]

@kathleenramm I usually write in several POVs! I like to give insight in what happens to each person, and since usually they aren’t around each other, also shed light on other things that happen in entwining storylines.

Have you ever written a story with multiple POV?                                                       If so, how did it go? And if not, why?
I usually write in one POV, because I can really hone in and focus on that character and their thought process, voice, feelings, etc.
But there is o…[Read more]

Fear rippled through my body and I grabbed the closest thing in reach (which happened to be a mostly empty domino’s pizza box) and chucked it at the figure.
The pizza box bounced harmlessly off the figure’s back, and it spun around Poptart box still in hand.
My heart dropped to my feet; that figure… that person… that thing, was me.

I’m super late, but I just wanted to say that I love your most recent character sketch!! You can really get an idea of what kind of character he is by looking at it.
How long have you been doing character illustrations? And did you learn from anyone?
