Except,” his gaze drifted over to her, “she’s had a much harder time of it than me. In fact,” he tilted his head, “I’m not sure how she does it. She’s been through so much, yet when someone else is in need, it’s suddenly like they’re the most important people in the world, and her problems barely matter.” He noticed his gaze had wandered her way again and he snapped his attention back to Livia. “What goes on in your brains anyway?”
She raised an eyebrow.
Fynn chuckled. “What I mean is that I don’t always understand how Callie is feeling. I’ll do something and she’s mad at me. Well, mad as in, she doesn’t smile as easily. And I’ll do another thing and suddenly she’s really happy again. I can never figure out the female brain works.” He shook his head, the corner of his mouth quirking in a small smile.

Fynn chuckled awkwardly, the warmth on his cheeks feeling out of place. He willed it away and looked up at Liv. “I guess I just don’t understand how Callie’s mind works all the time. How do I know what I say will make her happy or… unhappy?” He caught Callie’s gaze as they passed each other again and she gave him a warm smile. “‘Cause… I don’t like it when she’s unhappy,” Fynn added in a soft murmur. He wasn’t even sure if Liv had heard it.
