“There was at least one death,” Marcel mused. “I was there for that one. I hung the other two guys on the roof spires.”
Wren looked a little shaken.
“I’m sorry, that didn’t make any… You know what?” Marcel looked up from where he leaned against the bleachers. He shut his mouth, then opened it. “You should know this place is absolute chaos. And we’re all used to pretending it isn’t. If you’re going to write an article, make a big storm over the school board. They’re probably all criminals.”

I love how y’all are interpreting my sketch of him. Your comments are perfect. Reading them is quite therapeutic. There is a scene for him in the second book that I wrote several months back as a drill. I desperately want to share it, but I also desperately want to keep it a secret. It’s driving me crazy.
He’s my darling, my little baby. The guy who would definitely die in most books. If he were real(and grown up a little more), I would want to marry him. 🤣 A real servant leader.

“When I first got here, I made friends with a younger kid, the headmaster’s son. He was getting beat up by his own brothers.” Marcel’s mouth tightened at the memory. “We tried to report it but… nothing happened. I haven’t seen him in a while. Things happen in the open and the teachers do nothing about it. Punching matches in the hallway, duels, rules broken. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve broken up or won a fight. The death happened a little while ago; a few guys tried to kidnap some students and we took care of them. Someone investigated it, but must have gotten in trouble with rich people who want to cover things up. I think the reason is because this is such a popular school; it’s the first multi-world educational institution. No one wants it to look bad.”
At the look on Wren’s face, the anger that often sat passively in Marcel began to rise. There was injustice here, even if he was there to counteract it when he could.
So many of the students were okay, and wanted to be there. They could defend themselves. But that didn’t mean they should have to. Even though no one was seriously hurt, anything could happen.
Marcel squared his jaw. He watched the students laughing and playing together beyond the bleachers. “I don’t – I don’t think there’s anything better to do with my life than protect people, and that’s why I’ve stayed. There will always be someone who takes advantage of someone weaker. But I get tired. We’re not getting a lot of support here.”
A pause. Then he added, “Sorry. I don’t know why I said so much at once.”

“No, you’re fine. It’s- that’s helpful.” Wren looked at him for a moment, lost in thought, before suddenly giving a start and opening her notebook. She scratched a few things down in shorthand.
“Do you, uh, have names? Of the people involved? Were’s the student who was targeted by the kidnappers? Is he doing alright now?”
That’s too many questions, Wren. Get yourself together. Be professional.
