Kari’s coming to join!
Breathing heavily from the exertion, Kari paused on her way up the hill to catch her breath. As she looked around at her surroundings, she noticed a house she had not seen before. She had intended to climb the hill and spend the evening…[Read more]

I think someone mentioned this already earlier, but C.S. Lewis did a fantastic job using Aslan to represent God. Okay, the whole way he created Narnia and all the characters in those stories just blows my mind sometimes, but I love how Lewis chose a lion to represent God in the stories. Watching Aslan interact with the characters…[Read more]

I would love to tour Europe sometime! I’ve seen a little bit of England when I went with my parents to visit some missionaries in Wales a couple years back, but my ancestors are from Switzerland so it would be fun to go there. And I took French so I’d love to go to France, too.

Welcome! I’m Janessa, aka Trailblazer, and I’m still fairly new here, too! I write a lot of contemporary fiction and also historical fiction, and I’ve tried my hand at mysteries, too. I’ve done some journalism, and I enjoy photography, especially when it involves mountains! I like to get out and hike, but unfortunately I don’t live…[Read more]

I like this idea! I’ve been sharing some of one of my WIPs in a separate forum I started, but I might drop some things in here, too!

@hybridlore Thanks! I’m glad you’re enjoying it!
I definitely want to try to show some more interactions between Libbie/Etta and some of the other girls from school (Lillian, Sara, Jennie, etc.). I just need to figure out what sub-plots I could work in.

This next section I’m gonna post is one that needs a little more fleshing out as well. It’s short, and you’ll be able to see it feels more like a summary than really telling the story. If you have any ideas of scenarios I could fit in here or things you think should happen with the characters, let me know!
Over…[Read more]

One thing I like about these scenes is that it gives a little more of a glimpse of Libbie’s relationship with her brother Abe. I feel like he’s not a very well developed character in the story, but I want to find a way to change that.

@light-warrior-pen If you’re going for a sweet proposal, and you have your characters well developed, have the guy plan something that would be special to the girl for reasons that only they are aware of, or bring in the location of their first date or something. Idk the context of your story or their relationship, but it’s always more special if…[Read more]

@savannah_grace2009 @hybridlore Here, I’ll post you some more.
The first day of school arrived at long last. I pulled out my pinafore to cover the front of my dress, and thought of how long it had been since I’d worn it. My hair was braided neatly in two braids, and I scrubbed my face clean. My shoes no longer fit me, and Mama said we’d hav…[Read more]

@savannah_grace2009 haha I think that paragraph mistake happened when I was copying and pasting over from my document lol.
“At long last” is an expression (it’s like “at last”, but implies more of a “finally, after all that struggle”) but it felt a little weird to me too when I was reading it again so I’ll probably change that.

Here’s another segment! Not sure if I got all the historical details correct, so let me know if something seems out of place or unrealistic.
August 1883: Settling Down

@kyronthearcanin I can’t tell you how many times I cried reading through the series the first time… after that I knew what was coming, but the first time through was tough. I read those books so fast, too, lol!

@kyronthearcanin Maybe I’ll have to try Starlight if I can find the time!
Oh back to the favorite characters- I forgot about Professor Hamilton, but he’s definitely one of my favorites, too! I have so many good quotes from him because he’s just so full of wisdom.

I haven’t read either of those; I do have the Time Echoes trilogy, and it was good but I didn’t like it as much. My cousin read the Starlight series but she said she didn’t think they were as good, either, and I just never took the time to try it. Ironically, I’m not normally a sci-fi fan, but I fell in love with the whole…[Read more]

@kyronthearcanin Oh I know, I’m not normally the type of person to reread books but I’ve reread these so many times!
I agree, Walter is definitely the best male character… I love his jokes! I like Billy, too, but Walter’s jokes give him the upper hand lol.
Bones of Makaidos is probably the best of the books… the whole Oracles of Fire series…[Read more]

@kyronthearcanin I’ve read all three! I own the first two series and I want to buy the third one as well.
I think Bonnie is probably my favorite, but Ashley is a close second for me, too.
Do you have a favorite of all the books?
