I didn’t think you were. I’m used to that, my grandfather and my…technically step-grandmother are not Calvinists either. In fact, Grandpa openly opposes Calvinism to the point of saying that John Calvin was a heretic. It has caused some…divisions to say the least.
I’m sorry to hear that:( Differences in those sorts of things will create…[Read more]

Yeah, I enjoyed it, but I see what you mean. There’s so much about the Elantrians I want to know about though, like if there is a locational influence on how much power an Elantrian has, then when did they figure out how to explore the whole Cosmere, still bearing their powers?

Mars hill was the place of philosephers.
Ok, cool!
Though, if there was nothing to teach us about one and two, then we wouldn’t know about it. Also, math would not exist if God didn’t. Someone has to create it right? math is not outside of God, He could break math when He wanted to, but He is so orderly, and never changes that I don’t think…

Put that way…XD Anselm would probably never win a debate on Mars hill!
Lol, yeah, I don’t know much about Mars hill, but yes, his rhetoric seems to ultimately fall flat.
I’ve heard variations of this idea. Essentially the idea that mathematics is essentially assumed to be not self sufficient, because mathematics is something that only s…[Read more]

Great point. That’s one argument many have made to Aquinas’ cosmological arguments, saying it’s too disconnected from the God of Abraham. In this case though, I would go further. One of Anselm’s students found this argument to be completely invalid. He said to imagine the most perfect island. This island is so great to live on that nothing…[Read more]

Fair enough. Do you see anything wrong with the argument, or do you think it may actually show undeniably that God must exist?

For trope preferences, I think I’m pretty basic 😂. I like enemies to lovers the most, grumpy x sunshine is my favorite. I’m actually not a huge fan of love triangles, but I have nothing against them. Not sure if this is basic or not, but I enjoy the occasional age gap (as long as it’s nothing too crazy lol)
Fair enough, lol! Yeah,…[Read more]

Ontology is a philosophical study on what it means for something to exist. An ontological argument is essentially any argument that God must necessarily exist using logical language. The cosmological argument is a different kind of argument, saying essentially that there must be a self sufficient element that created the universe, and we say…[Read more]

One thing I was just thinking about is that the Resonance of Conversion creates the possibility of a manmade magic system. It would be possible for Conversion to create a new form of Arcana if you knew what you were doing. On its own, this would be useless, but it’s also possible you could create the ability to use the new Arcana. C…

(btw, can I call you Macguffin instead of Mcmuffin?)
I have so many, but here is one that I can think of… one of my characters uses compressed gas that orbits around him, as a way to take out his enemies.
Ok, cool! So does it function sort of like an non-solid sword?
No, it is not unfair. Â (In my opinion)
Alright, fair enough!

Ohhhh, interesting, but makes a whole lot of sense. I would assume that I’ve seen that by now, but I don’t know. I’m in the middle of Warbreaker, going to read Rhythm, then Lost Metal, then Sunlit, then I will have finished the Comsere, so if it’s in any of those, it’s probably the first two. Didn’t Hoid give Kelsier a good beating? Unless…[Read more]

@everyone
I don’t think Ontological arguments have been talked about on here at all yet, would that interest anyone?

Hey Kathleen! Did you ever want to pick the conversation back up? I did say a bit much, didn’t I😅

Yeah, Invested Art is basically the in-universe term for magic system. I haven’t read LM either. I think Harmony was talking about having a difficult time acting due to the conflicting intents in the other WaW books.
That’s true. He did make a point that in character, he favors preservation, but in nature, he must yield to balance.

I try for hard worldbuilding.
Cool, me too!
Well it’s based around a battle in a land called Extroit… it’s supposed to be intense… but I don’t know.
Sounds interesting! You’ve come to the right place to develop it if your not fully sold on it’s current draft.
You know, I don’t really have one that’s a hard one, I like everyone and…

Does invested art mean any of the local magic systems? Like Allomancy? I didn’t realize that Harmony was having trouble, is that in Lost Metal? Yeah, the scale and importance of Roshar would lead me to think it likely.

Destruction tends to be a bit…messy, but you probably could get it precise enough to do that. These powers are going to be just being discovered in the story this is for, so I will get to explore the technological effects of them. I think these are going to give you nearly perfect technology in a lot of areas.
Yeah, that makes sense.
