Jenna Terese replied to the topic Please help me! in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 5 months ago
@ariel-f A lot of the time I try to put myself in the character’s shoes, or really get in their head. If I was that character, how would I feel if [fill in the blank] happened to me? Getting really deep into their internal conflict, backstories, lies they believe, their values, etc. really helps them come alive and connects them to both author and…[Read more]

Jenna Terese replied to the topic I'M MAKING A WEBSITE!!! YAY! in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 5 months ago
@godlyfantasy12
That’s so exciting! 😀 I think a home page, blog page, contact page, and a page for your WIPs is sufficient. That’s so awesome that you’re creating a website! -
Jenna Terese replied to the topic Writing a series where the books aren't technically related…? in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 5 months ago
@nova21 I do like series set in the same world but aren’t necessarily connected. 👍🏽 But I think to achieve this successfully the world building has to be done really well and made interesting enough for the reader to stay in that world. In this kind of situation, I personally like it when the books are at least a little bit connected, even if it’s…[Read more]

Jenna Terese replied to the topic To edit or not to edit… in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 5 months ago
I’d recommend editing it before you move on to book two, because sometimes with editing things change around with the plot and characters and it’d be easier to have those things at least somewhat set in stone before moving on to the next book than to have to do even more editing with the second book. It may have been confusing the way I…[Read more]

Jenna Terese replied to the topic Writing and Jobs in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 5 months ago
That’s a really good question… As much as I want to write full-time (which is pretty much what I do now), I think having other jobs is a good way to gain experience in different areas.

Thank you! Oh wow, a country song? I’m intrigued. 😀 That’s awesome that you’re getting back into writing again! Yup, I’m working on my sequel. I made some pretty good progress yesterday. 🙂 Abbie Emmons is hosting a virtual ‘writing retreat’ during June with writing livestreams every Wednesday, if you’re interested.

Jenna Terese replied to the topic Synopsis and Taglines! in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 5 months ago
I REALLY like your tag lines! The synopsis is good too; my one suggestion would be to briefly mention why the main character and her friend are being sent off to this circus land. But great job! 😀

Thanks, Jenna! It sounds like so much fun, and I really wish I could join! Unfortunately, that’s the weekend my family’s going to be in town, and since they now live 17+ hours away, I want to spend all the time with them I can. I hope you all have loads of fun and laughs at the meeting! And hopefully if you have another in the future I can…[Read more]
@rochellaine I totally understand! There were more people not able to join, so we’ll definitely be doing it again. 😉
