Ooh I like it! 😍 Since I haven’t written much fantasy, I’ll leave that up to others. But awesome job! -
SeekJustice replied to the topic Using a Pen Name: Yay or Nay? in the forum Publishing & Platform 5 years, 2 months ago
I think, privacy reasons aside, I would only go for a pen name to disguise the fact that I was a woman, but as a couple of other people have said, that’s less of an issue than it used to be. For example, if I was to write YA that’s a female dominated area of publishing and being labeled as a Chelsea wouldn’t be a bad thing at all.…[Read more]

SeekJustice replied to the topic Fantasy Kingdom Names in the forum Fantasy 5 years, 2 months ago
My secret is…that I don’t. I literally don’t, if I can help it *hides in shame*. I’m still trying to think of a name for the city in the last book I drafted. The book I’m currently writing has absolutely no names. The fantasy novel before last has a world literally called the Dreamland (though this has a meaning and significance…[Read more]

Jenna Terese replied to the topic Please help me! in the forum General Writing Discussions 5 years, 2 months ago
@ariel-f A lot of the time I try to put myself in the character’s shoes, or really get in their head. If I was that character, how would I feel if [fill in the blank] happened to me? Getting really deep into their internal conflict, backstories, lies they believe, their values, etc. really helps them come alive and connects them to both author and…[Read more]

Jenna Terese replied to the topic I'M MAKING A WEBSITE!!! YAY! in the forum General Writing Discussions 5 years, 2 months ago
@godlyfantasy12
That’s so exciting! 😀 I think a home page, blog page, contact page, and a page for your WIPs is sufficient. That’s so awesome that you’re creating a website! -
Jenna Terese replied to the topic Writing a series where the books aren't technically related…? in the forum General Writing Discussions 5 years, 2 months ago
@nova21 I do like series set in the same world but aren’t necessarily connected. 👍🏽 But I think to achieve this successfully the world building has to be done really well and made interesting enough for the reader to stay in that world. In this kind of situation, I personally like it when the books are at least a little bit connected, even if it’s…[Read more]

SeekJustice started the topic Writers' Corner #1 in the forum General Writing Discussions 5 years, 2 months ago
Hey all! Back in the golden days before KP shut down we used to have a topic going here called Writers’ Corner and it was basically just a place where we could come together with out mugs of coffee and cups of tea and write together, or simply just chat. It was the gem of KP so I’ve decided to get it going again!
I’m currently watching a lecture…[Read more]

SeekJustice replied to the topic What's your favorite type of villain? in the forum Topic of the Week 5 years, 3 months ago
I must say that I go against the grain and like the powerful villains who don’t have sympathetic backstories and are just evil. Jadis is by far one of my favourite villains because she gives me such chills, particularly in The Magician’s Nephew in the city of Charn. Villains like Mother Gothel from Tangled who are powerful and com…[Read more]

valtmy replied to the topic Themes for mystery/thriller? in the forum Mystery 5 years, 3 months ago
I think the right theme would emerge once you have a general idea of the characters and how the plot should go. For a short story, perhaps you might want to avoid some of the bigger themes which would require an entire novel to do justice (pun intended).
Since your story is to be a mystery/thriller, one idea that came to me is to…[Read more]

valtmy replied to the topic What's your favorite type of villain? in the forum Topic of the Week 5 years, 3 months ago
Oh yes I love it when the antagonist and protagonist mirror each other thematically.
I like unexpected villains (e.g. killer being a child or sweet old lady). I’m also fascinated by villains that have unique and interesting motivations because the power-hungry, petty-jealous-rivalry, s…[Read more]
