Such a sweet story! It’s kinda cool how something that can be such a hassle for one person can be a dream come true for another.
He sounds like such a cool character!
Although it doesn’t happened all the time, I love it when I see or meet someone who seems straight out of a fictional world. Everything about them is so…[Read more]

@relia I understand. I have not made it to that point yet but I already know that I will be killing off a character in the 2nd to last book of my series, and I’m already thinking up ways to revive said character in a separate series because I’m just like “I love this for development and everything but also kinda wanna bring her back cuz dis is ju…[Read more]

XD I love your introduction! As I read it, I was thinking ‘I like this person already’! Loved the Gollum voice too, (it was absolutely hilarious XD ).
I’m Abigail by the way and if you don’t mind my stealing your awesome idea for introducing one’s self… also get ready for this XD I guess I’m a…[Read more] -

@abigail-m Very much looking for an opportunity every chance I get. It’s just too good to pass up.
@lewilliams I’m with Kathleen on villainous ice cream trucks. You should definitely include it in a story. Like, where do ice cream trucks even come from? Are they even stoppable?
@relia Ah, yes, I’ve done this myself several times. It’s awesome,…[Read more]

That’s awesome! That kid sounds like an amazing character, (if only he knew he were going to be immortalized as a MC ), but I guess that proves that all is fair game to a writer XD Seriously though, just by reading that, I can tell that he has got to be quite a main character 😀

I’m a big believer in Doing Whatever Works For You, however, I’m personally going to go against the grain here and say that for me personally editing a duology together is what works better for me. I’ve written a duology and I’m currently in the process of editing it (or I’m pretending to edit it rather), and for me the best way to do it…[Read more]

@relia I agree with Jenna and Lexi, you should probably edit the first book before you move on to the second one so that you have a solid foundation with the first book. Besides, sharing the first one with your family would be so fun and might even give you some useful feedback to incorporate or just keep in mind before you move on to the second book!

Lin replied to the topic To edit or not to edit… in the forum General Writing Discussions 4 years, 9 months ago
@relia I’m waiting till I finish most of my series to edit…or maybe all of it (probably because I hate editing) but also in future books I might decide to change things that happen in previous books so when I go back to rewrite or whatever I can change accordingly. Also because my writing improves the more I write.

Like Jenna said, I would recommend editing the first book before moving on to the sequel. I myself am writing a trilogy, and while I’ve outlined (loosely) all three books, I’m going to completely edit them one at a time before moving onward. That way, if you get new ideas or want to tweak the storyline a bit, you have the freedom to…[Read more]

I’d recommend editing it before you move on to book two, because sometimes with editing things change around with the plot and characters and it’d be easier to have those things at least somewhat set in stone before moving on to the next book than to have to do even more editing with the second book. It may have been confusing the way I…[Read more]

@writerlexi1216 @jodi-maile @relia
Thank you all so much!! I suppose the main thing that I want critiqued is the main character, Ember. That’s she’s likable enough, I suppose. Also, I haven’t written in 1st person before, and I just want to be sure that everything is clear in that person. Oh, and there’s a sword fight in chapter 3, and I haven’t…[Read more]

Right. I feel like I should read it eventually, due to its status as a classic. 😛

Jenna Terese replied to the topic Writing and Jobs in the forum General Writing Discussions 4 years, 9 months ago
That’s a really good question… As much as I want to write full-time (which is pretty much what I do now), I think having other jobs is a good way to gain experience in different areas.
-
Lin replied to the topic Writing and Jobs in the forum General Writing Discussions 4 years, 9 months ago
@relia Another job, because I feel like maybe, just maybe if I had to do writing as work then I might hate it.
-
SeekJustice replied to the topic Writing and Jobs in the forum General Writing Discussions 4 years, 9 months ago
@relia I’d choose to have another job as well, either as a dog trainer or a speech pathologist. I love writing, but it could never be more of a side job for me. I’m a hands on person and I would need to be out in the world in order to actually write good things.
-
Jodi Maile replied to the topic Writing and Jobs in the forum General Writing Discussions 4 years, 9 months ago
I would write and choose to have another job. I’m a firm believer that you won’t have many good experiences to write about if you don’t go and experience them in the first place. Having another job can introduce you to new tasks, new team dynamics, and new personalities to observe and learn from. Also, having another (interesting) job can…[Read more]
