Welp. Tomorrow is the start of November, meaning I really gotta get in gear starting tomorrow with my writing.
Wish me luck! And if anyone has ideas on how to stop procrastinating, or just some encouragement that’d be great lol.
I’m thinking if I can maybe world build one location using the…[Read more]

Kathleen replied to the topic What's something not related to writing, that inspires the most story ideas? in the forum Topic of the Week 5 years, 4 months ago
Haha, I never imagined someone could get story ideas from memes. XD
Oooh, why didn’t I think of dreams? While falling asleep is one of my favorite times to create or play out story ideas. Have you ever gotten a story idea from an actual dream?
Yes! Lengthy story discussions! I’ve spent hundreds of hours with my…[Read more]

Okay, so I definitely haven’t been on here for a long time so I don’t know if people have been discussing this yet… (On the bright side, I HAVE been actually writing a lot more, which was the whole point of me not being on here as much, so yay:)
But I’m doing this for the first time ever, with one of my good friends, so I’m wondering if anyone…[Read more]

I LOVE making cultures. 🙂 My strategy is to mash up various characteristics of real-world cultures to make something unique. Although each culture has a specific aesthetic that I shoot for. For example, I might have a Medieval European aesthetic, but incorporate cultural elements/traditions from feudal Japan.
As a cold-blooded…[Read more]

Can I just say that I absolutely love the name Tora! It’s actually my dog’s name and I think it’s so cool. Sorry, just had to get that in there 😀 😀 😀
I honestly think my biggest struggle with writing is balancing it with the rest of my life. I have a very all-or-nothing personality and I can go for months without…[Read more]

@r-m-archer Ahh, I understand–’tis a struggle to strike the balance the story needs. I also get the multiple-POVs-in-which-some-are-easier-to-write-than-others struggle–my WIP has three narrators, and I’m just now starting to understand my girl MC’s voice. (I put “just now” in italics because I created this poor woman in 2013, so you’d think…[Read more]

@kathleenramm Wow, that’s…such a relatable struggle. I know the feeling quite well–there’s almost an infinite amount of ways a story could go that it can be difficult to just…pick something. It’s also hard when you come up with…[Read more]

Yeah, sometimes too much advice can stunt creativity. With so many opinions online, sometimes while writing I feel like have to check off all these boxes, instead of just tell a story.
Each time I write I have to remind myself that I just need to tell a story, in an understandable, enjoyable way, that helps someone. Even if…[Read more]

@r-m-archer Whoa!! The Enneagram is much more complex than I was led to believe–I love it! Thank you for the book recommendation, and for sharing your knowledge–I had no idea tri-types were a thing. (Well, I think I’d heard of them, but didn’t really understand how it worked.) How do you go about figuring out one’s tri-type? Other than reading…[Read more]

*waltzes in several days late, tea in hand* Oh goodness, this has turned into such a lively discussion while I was away. It does my heart good.
@r-m-archer Hey, we have the same enneagram number! *fistbump for fellow nineishness* What got you into the enneagram? I’d love to hear some of your knowledge of the subject–I’m afraid my understanding…[Read more]

Hey, so I wanted to kickstart the conversation here again, so….where did the first spark of inspiration for your story come from?
Just tagging a few people who’ve already commented, but anyone is more than welcome to join in!

Of course! I know all about Kindle Direct Publishing, I just can be very thick and didn’t realise that’s what KDP stood for 😛
I know, the quotes are really bugging me too.
Haha, no worries! I like talking about my books. My main characters are called Mere and Roe and they are based on Jeanne Baret and William…[Read more]

I’m loving all this publishing chatter. Can I ask what KDP is? I’ve been tossing up whether to pursue the self-publishing or trad publishing route and I really haven’t decided yet, so I’m keen to hear about more options.
Also, I would say, I (and a bunch of other trad published authors) wouldn’t recommend going with a…[Read more]

@r-m-archer I’ve read about your Calligraphy Guild novel on your website, it honestly looks so awesome and I’m intrigued by the whole “magic ink rewriting the past” concept. I hope it goes well! And I’m sure there’s heaps you can do to revitalise your old novel, best of…[Read more]

@jenwriter17 Thank you for sharing the link to your blog! I particularly enjoyed reading the synopsis for Ignite. Kathleen replied to the topic Are you and outliner or a pantser? in the forum Topic of the Week 5 years, 5 months ago
Yes, having a detailed outline can give you a sense of security while writing. You don’t have to worry about having as many plot holes or getting stuck in the middle of writing.
Ooooh, your fantasy trilogy sound really interesting! What’s the premise, and how far are you into writing it? Is it going smoothly or are you pulling your…[Read more]

Kathleen replied to the topic If you could be a student of any Author, who would it be? in the forum Topic of the Week 5 years, 6 months ago
Why didn’t I think of Agatha Christie?! I’m sure that there are tons of writing lessons I could learn from her. Writing mystery novels are not what you would call my strong suit. Not by a long shot.
I am ashamed to say that I have not read the Silmarillion yet. Though I intend on reading it as soon as possible. My brother as been…[Read more]

I also enjoyed the LotR much more. I liked the Hobbit, but it was definitely geared more towards children. Not a bad thing, I just prefer more serious books. So I do like the LotR more than the Narnia series as well, but if I had to only choose one author to be a student of, it would still be C.S. Lewis for the reasons I said in my…[Read more]
