@r-m-archer Yea. I’m…definitely struggling a bit. I really want to worldbuild well, but some of the questionnaires just don’t work for me. I’m not sure what to do except come up with something myself, but that in itself is hard too.
Should I just start taking notes on what I know? Kinda like what you’re saying? I use Scrivener  (sometimes word…[Read more]

This is such a cool idea! I have self-published my first book this year on Amazon. It’s a children’s book targeted to ages 9-12 called Memory Lane Was Moved. Here is the description:
When eleven-year-old Travis wakes up in a strange room with no memory, he embarks on an adventure of a lifetime. Teaming up with Sadie and her older…[Read more]

@devastate-lasting @gracie-j @kathleenramm @r-m-archer
Welp. Tomorrow is the start of November, meaning I really gotta get in gear starting tomorrow with my writing.
Wish me luck! And if anyone has ideas on how to stop procrastinating, or just some encouragement that’d be great lol.
I’m thinking if I can maybe world build one location using the…[Read more]

Haha, I never imagined someone could get story ideas from memes. XD
Oooh, why didn’t I think of dreams? While falling asleep is one of my favorite times to create or play out story ideas. Have you ever gotten a story idea from an actual dream?
Yes! Lengthy story discussions! I’ve spent hundreds of hours with my…[Read more]

I don’t really do contemporary either (if I understand contemporary right lol) I probably used to, but I just really love fantasy.
you got your fantasy creatures and people, and magic, and interesting plots and wonderful characters and everything!!

Okay, so I definitely haven’t been on here for a long time so I don’t know if people have been discussing this yet… (On the bright side, I HAVE been actually writing a lot more, which was the whole point of me not being on here as much, so yay:)
But I’m doing this for the first time ever, with one of my good friends, so I’m wondering if anyone…[Read more]

I LOVE making cultures. 🙂 My strategy is to mash up various characteristics of real-world cultures to make something unique. Although each culture has a specific aesthetic that I shoot for. For example, I might have a Medieval European aesthetic, but incorporate cultural elements/traditions from feudal Japan.
As a cold-blooded…[Read more]

Can I just say that I absolutely love the name Tora! It’s actually my dog’s name and I think it’s so cool. Sorry, just had to get that in there 😀 😀 😀
I honestly think my biggest struggle with writing is balancing it with the rest of my life. I have a very all-or-nothing personality and I can go for months without…[Read more]

@r-m-archer Ahh, I understand–’tis a struggle to strike the balance the story needs. I also get the multiple-POVs-in-which-some-are-easier-to-write-than-others struggle–my WIP has three narrators, and I’m just now starting to understand my girl MC’s voice. (I put “just now” in italics because I created this poor woman in 2013, so you’d think…[Read more]

@r-m-archer, no, I agree with you there. I feel it’d be very unlike– well I actually agree with all your points and used them as arguments when I first read the article. (I mentally argue with nearly everything I read. XD) But yes, I’d agree with you.

*waltzes into the discussion late, tea in hand, which is generally how I make my grand entrance into most topics*
@kathleenramm Wow, that’s…such a relatable struggle. I know the feeling quite well–there’s almost an infinite amount of ways a story could go that it can be difficult to just…pick something. It’s also hard when you come up with…[Read more]

@r-m-archer, it’s certainly an interesting concept. It very well could be that AI could count as a person. I recently read an article (or listened to a podcast–I can’t remember) and it basically ended with “If God wanted to give AI a soul that would never die, then He certainly could. But we don’t perfectly know the mind of God and so we don’t…[Read more]

Yeah, sometimes too much advice can stunt creativity. With so many opinions online, sometimes while writing I feel like have to check off all these boxes, instead of just tell a story.
Each time I write I have to remind myself that I just need to tell a story, in an understandable, enjoyable way, that helps someone. Even if…[Read more]

@r-m-archer Whoa!! The Enneagram is much more complex than I was led to believe–I love it! Thank you for the book recommendation, and for sharing your knowledge–I had no idea tri-types were a thing. (Well, I think I’d heard of them, but didn’t really understand how it worked.) How do you go about figuring out one’s tri-type? Other than reading…[Read more]

@gracie-j, good.
Ha, no. Never again. Actually maybe at some point, but it was the most boring, hottest job ever. The beginning of the summer started out decent but by late July in SC, you’re pouring sweat and getting hit on by ugly teenage guys who keep breaking rules to get your attention. @r-m-archer, like, 90% of the sessions were super boring but then there were those few on writing or other stuff that were neat.

@leon-fleming, yup, the only book of his I liked was Boys of Blur. And no, that event happened almost two years ago. I’ve gained slightly more control of my tongue since then. 😎
I couldn’t guess.@r-m-archer, yeah it was pretty neat. 😂 Both of them talked about writing at a homeschooling conference I went to.
