What’s an unexpected benefit you got from writing?
For me an unanticipated benefit from writing was becoming a more empathetic person. It seems kinda obvious now, but yeah, creating and writing people who are completely different from yourself really changes how you look at people.Having to put yourself in their mind and understand why they are…[Read more]

Yeah, I agree that a lot of portrayals of the Robin Hood justified stealing. However, now I’m really curious about the original story and if it actually does that. Did you read the original version? Because the theme of “is stealing ever justified” could be a really interesting topic to explore in a novel. As it could delve into both…[Read more]

Life and school can be so overwhelming. Sometimes if feels like there’s an heavy weight on your shoulders at all times and you can never catch a breath. And no, your post didn’t come off as complaining at all! It just isn’t realistic to never talk about things that aren’t so positive. It’s good to talk about what you are struggling with.…[Read more]

Ah, yeah, learning more about mythology and history can really change your perspective on things.
And as much as I like Narnia, I always lean towards Tolkien as well. I love his worldbuilding and writing style, and yeah like you said his originality when it comes to both mythology and story. So many people have tried to replicate it,…[Read more]

That’s kinda funny, because that’s the same opinion Tolkien had on Lewis’s work! Tolkien also didn’t like The Chronicles of Narnia very much because the mythology didn’t make sense.
Although I love The Chronicles of Narnia, I get why it wouldn’t settle right for some people. It does do a lot of crazy things with mythology that might…[Read more]

Despite not having read Ingleside (I have only read the first Anne of Green Gables book) I thoroughly related to your frustrations in your post.
One of my pet peeves in books are characters who makes dumb decisions simply for plot convenience. Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally fine with characters who make mistakes, but the…[Read more]

@kathleenramm Ever since I started writing I read much less, and I don’t reread books I read long ago anymore, plus I think we gave a lot of them away. On the rare occasion that I remembered I loved one book as a kid and I would reread it, I usually found it more hilarious than before.
There was one trilogy I really loved called School For Good…[Read more]

What’s a book that hasn’t aged well for you?( ie. a book you used to liked, but now after reading again and/ or looking back on it wasn’t that good.)
I found the answer to this pretty recently, as I pick up a random book to read before bed. It was the third book in the Ascendance Trilogy, The Shadow Throne, by Jennifer A. Neilson. The first…[Read more]

Linyang Zhang replied to the topic What aspect of writing have you grown most with as a writer? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years, 6 months ago
@kathleenramm I think for me it was probably plot and themes. I remember when I first started writing I didn’t really know what themes I wanted to write about, how to incorporate them, or if I even wanted a theme. Now I think that everything I write has multiple themes woven throughout, though I can’t quite tell what they are. (This is why I…[Read more]

What aspect of writing (characters, prose, theme, etc.) have you grown the most with as a writer?
For me the biggest part of writing that I’ve grown most in throughout the years, is learning how to not make a story contrived. When I was younger I thought there had to be a set amount of events and plot points in my story for it to be a interesting…[Read more]

You’re so welcome! I’m glad they were helpful! I had a fair bit of Pinterest clean-up to do when I started using it for blogging, too. XD But I’ve found it to be worth it! I mostly just have a lot more secret boards now than I did before, lol.

Okay, I’m going to reopen The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes now. Even from what I read, though it wasn’t my favorite, I still learned a lot about writing from it. The writing style really inspired me to develop mine.
I love how you described it like poetry or song. Because it’s so true, yet it’s not blatant or distracting. Which is…[Read more]

Kathleen replied to the topic Topic suggestion for Biblical fiction writers in the forum Questions and Support 3 years, 6 months ago
Awesome idea! And since I have unlimited power with whatever is created on the site *chuckles evilly* Biblical Fiction is now a topic under “Genre Fiction”!
If there is any technical issues with it, just let me know and I’ll get right on it!

Kathleen replied to the topic What’s an unexpected place you got a story idea from? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years, 6 months ago
Haha, well, it doesn’t really have to be exciting to be unexpected.
Like the amount of times I’ve gotten story ideas out of an unexpected look, laugh, or hello is absurd.
Have you ever gotten an idea for a certain trait for a character from a person you know?
That’s cool. Now you’ll have to credit Evanescence as a co-writer…[Read more]

Ooh! This is so exciting! I’ve always thought it would be super cool for you to start blogging!
I love your introductory post. It’s beautifully honest. ^-^
I do have a couple blog posts that discuss how to get started blogging. They got eaten by the forum, so let’s see if it’ll let me post them one at a time.

Oof, yeah. Present tense first person isn’t something I’ve ever tried, but I can already see it going terribly wrong, haha.
The ending is pretty good? I was always a little curious about how it was going to end, but know I’m even more intrigued. I guess I’m going to have to finish it then!
As for your questions about The Hunger…[Read more]

@kathleenramm Plenty of places that I don’t even remember. Probably something similar to your waffle house experience. If I remember I’ll let you know.
