@dekreel This just keeps getting better 😀 I have to try not to laugh since I’m in a quiet library… 😀
And now I’m a little scared of @rochellaine
Although I guess she can’t hurt me I am a real squirrel… right???? Wait, am I??

@dekreel I seem to have missed a part or two…. Ah well, I’ll find it on the fancy-shmancy website. The whole Kingdom of Pen holds its breath in anticipation for the GIF-hunting – and also the moment they show up in the story 😀 Great job, I love it!!!

@jenwriter17 That’s funny 🙂 NOT a chapter book.
@dekreel Sounds exciting! What was it about?
I don’t have the first things I wrote but I was just thinking about it this morning 🙂 My younger sister and I collaborated when we were little on the ‘Lightbulb Boy’ books (thus named because his head was shaped like a lightbulb) They were basically…[Read more]

MNValentine replied to the topic Prayers in our writing in the forum Mission, Calling & Ethics 7 years ago
@skredder I agree with them. A well written prayer can move a reader deeply, especially if it’s a long-awaited moment. If you’re writing God into your book, it seems important to show your characters praying for the reasons Grace and Dekreel gave.

MNValentine replied to the topic Multiple themes/character development in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years ago
@gh24682468999 It is not too complicated. Actually it sounds fairly cohesive. If you think about it, any theme written realistically will have multiple applications and multiple conclusions. The world is complicated and so are humans, and so a simple theme will not be convincing and is more likely to come over as preachy, as opposed to a complex…[Read more]

@joy I think that maps are the most important thing. You should at least map the direct areas where your story takes place, because you need to have consistent distances – we don’t want it to take a month to go somewhere and a week to get back. Also, if you have traveling in your story, you want to let your map shape the travel, so that the…[Read more]

MNValentine replied to the topic When characters won't talk right… in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years, 1 month ago
You’ve got some good advice here 😀 @winter-rose has it totally right. Dialogue isn’t about relaying information so much as it is about characters’ motivations and trying to get what they want. Here’s a tip for figuring out how to improve dialogue: Take everything but the dialogue out of the section so it’s purely dialogue, then read it out loud.…[Read more]

MNValentine replied to the topic So… scary thought… I might write a children's story in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years, 1 month ago
@daughteroftheking I really like your idea! I think it sounds like a great story for that age range. Honestly I think what you should do is read some good children’s fiction. I know a lot of good children’s books because I still mainly read from the children’s section at our library (I’ve probably read every book in there). I was going to…[Read more]

@joy That’s a pretty cool idea 🙂 The only problem with it is that if the kids aren’t heroes, they’re not extremely involved in the story, so it might end up having to be short… idk 😀 Thanks!! By the way, what are some of the cliches you like?

MNValentine replied to the topic Best Cover Designs in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years, 1 month ago
@dekreel That one’s cool 🙂 I like the way the colors are used.
@seekjustice I really like that Lord of the Rings cover., I don’t think I’d seen that one before. I’m definitely one for simplistic covers too 😀

So I’m not looking for cover design tips, I’ve already read the whole internet on that topic 🙂 But I want to hear what covers you all think are well designed – fiction, nonfiction, I really don’t care, I just want to know what you think looks good!!

MNValentine replied to the topic Informal Survey in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years, 1 month ago
@daeus Yes I would love to become an established author 😀 I’m less afraid of publicity and work (although I’m extremely introverted) as I am of my writing going downhill if people start saying it’s good… But I dream of writing for a living and having some kind of fanbase. In reality, a couple hundred readers would probably satisfy me. And yes,…[Read more]

@ashlyvye Everyone says that about Ragnarok, which is actually why I think I won’t like it. I prefer the more serious movies, with the exception of Spiderman: Homecoming which was basically just awesome…
My sister has a ragdoll cat patronus too! That’s cool 🙂 Mine was a dog, but I don’t think that’s accurate.
