Jenna Terese replied to the topic Writing for a Career? in the forum General Writing Discussions 4 years, 11 months ago
@lydia-s That’s so awesome that you want to make writing a career! 😀 That’s so awesome! That’s also what I pursued after high school. I didn’t go to college for it, because I didn’t think that was necessary. I think there are plenty of other resources (books, courses, websites, videos, etc.) that you can learn adequately from without paying as…[Read more]

Kathleen replied to the topic Need help in creating my Indian MC in the forum Characters 4 years, 11 months ago
All the same principles that make any character good applies to an Indian character. So I suggest doing a lot of research on what makes a character well-developed, complex, and what makes them feel real. There’s a lot of articles on KP about that.
And then I’d do a lot of research on what kind of Indian she is. Everything surrounding…[Read more]

Kathleen replied to the topic Is this a good title for my fantasy novel ? in the forum Fantasy 4 years, 11 months ago
What’s the premise of the story? I think if I knew a bit about what it’s about I could give you a better answer on if the title fits.
Also, congrats on finishing your novel! Is this the first book you’ve finished or have you completed others before?

Cool! Do you choose the word for the prompt yourself randomly, or do you find it somewhere or are inspired by something?

Hi! So nice to meet you! I’m Kathleen, I’m also homeschooled and I love writing in pretty much every genre, except for Romance. (It’s cool as a sub-plot, but main plot is not really my thing. XD)
Wolves and horses, are some of my favorite animals as well! Along with Whales, Dolphins, and Deer.
What kind of music do you like to listen…[Read more]

Hiya! Awesome to have you!
Did someone say Toothless? Man, I love that movie so much. XD
Ah, Tolkien. He’s one of my favorite authors as well. Which all of his books have you read? I’ve only read LoTR and The Hobbit, but I’ve been wanting to read the Silmarillion.
Ruby is so cute! Do you have any other pets besides her?
Also, what’s…[Read more]

@anika123 Welcome to the Kingdom! We’re so happy you’re here! I’ve got some questions for you, if you don’t mind.
1. What are some of your favorite hobbies outside of writing?
2, What’s your current work about?
3. What are some of your favorite books/movies?

@elfwing Hi there! Welcome to the Kingdom! I’m Linyang, though most here call me Lin.
Ah, dragons. Is this the type of fantasy that you write? I write fantasy as well, though I stray more towards an urban fantasy. Can you tell me what your current work in progress is about?
Also, beautiful profile picture.
Ey, I’m homeschooled as well, and also…[Read more]

@gracie-j Ahhh tysm! It’s from a song called “Campanella” by Kenshi Yonezu! I highly recommend it (and the book which it was based on).

@kathleenramm
Cry. Or scream. Kidding, kidding.I’ll either scribble down some incoherent things for my future self to decipher, or I’ll run it around in my brain for a few days or weeks until I feel like I have a coherent idea for me to start developing. And then at some point I start it, leave it for six months, then come back and see where it takes me. -

An amazing story idea pops into your head: What do you do?
For me, if it’s an idea that would work for a short story, I try to write down the summary of the whole story from beginning to end because I find with short story ideas, I usually think of the ending pretty soon after I think of the beginning.I try to write it down as quickly as…[Read more]

When reading or watching stories from countries that you don’t usually, it’s kinda fun to see what cliches are consistent globally and what new tropes they like to use often.
But I find there is almost always a different feeling to the stories. Like the author had a different mindset or approach to the story when he or she…[Read more]

Hi! I’m Kathleen and it’s awesome to have you!

@kathleenramm Of course! I totally get that. I feel like that while there’s clichés in manga, there is also a much different set of stories to explore than the ones we usually see.

Thanks for the recommendations! I love trying out different types of stories than I’m used to. You sometimes get tired of the same old stories you know?
Haha, I get it. Writing a full length novel is a slow, arduous (but fun) process. My siblings and I are still working on the first installment of our serial novel. :p

@kathleenramm Good characters! Hmm… Fullmetal Alchemist is definitely there at the top, or Silver Spoon, if you prefer school life over action/fantasy. A Silent Voice has a really nice MC and storyline for him. Spy x Family is extremely fun. 20th Century Boys by Naoki Urasawa, which I’m currently reading, is also phenomenal, though I’d have to…[Read more]
