@dragon-snapper @anne-of-lothlorien The quote is from La La Land
@winter-rose That’s definitely from the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
Okay, this one is from a released film: “Even if everyone is telling you that something wrong is something right. Even if the whole world is telling you to move. It is your duty to plant yourself like a tree,…[Read more]

@daeus Haven’t read everything that has been said, but I’ll jump in anyway.
I don’t think it’s right to put swearing in a novel. The Bible says not to do anything that will cause your brother to stumble (Romans 14:21). Some people will say that there are Christians who are hyper-conservative and they can be stumbled by almost everything. And…[Read more]

@dragon-snapper I swear I will answer you. What you’ve said really sparks some questions of my own. But I’m kind of busy this week (anniversary week of the Bible College)
@kate-flournoy Same for you.

Logan Black–main character (hero)
Gabriella Kamiyama–secondary character (good guy, daughter of Yukio btw)
Blake Aricson–secondary character: antihero
Daren Azimalik–villain
Jonah Cnatonus–secondary character (hero)
Yukio Kamiyama–villain (big baddie)Interesting how you came to similar, but different conclusions.

@anne-of-lothlorien Never mind. I kind of cheated. =P It’s from an unreleased movie. Just wanted to infuriate someone.
@bluejay Pretty sure that’s a Jane Austen something . . . is it?

@bluejay Sounds like you’re doing a writing contest. Are you?
Five to eight years old. Well, what is really interesting to five to eight year old kids? What grips their attention? If you have a story with kids their age then that is always a plus. I like reading kids books when the kids interact with other kids a lot. And realistically. Also,…[Read more]

@sarah-h Les Miserables 25th Anniversary Part 1
Les Miserables 25th Anniversary Part 2It’s a bit long, but still worth it. Maybe for like a movie night or something.

@emma-flournoy So the basic reason for the irreconcilable goods/evils is because of human nature. When humans see a choice they choose the best one. The one that is good. So that’s a problem when the character sees two choices–one good and one bad. They will choose the good one. It’s so simple and that’s a problem for stories. That’s why they…[Read more]

@dragon-snapper Oh, and (besides Disney princesses) there have also been plans for a live action Lion King (after the awesome reception of the live action Jungle Book), a live action Snow White Disney version, a Peter Pan reboot, and a Aladdin movie (the only one I’m feeling a little bit excited for). So what’s with this?

Mark Kamibaya replied to the topic Favorite Movies in the forum Film 7 years, 12 months ago
@dragon-snapper Okay, so I kind of did simplify and over-exaggerate the theme of both movies. But here’s the thing: that’s what people noticed. And no matter what the actual theme might be, the majority of the people saw the feminism so much more. This happened in Maleficent, Frozen, and even in action blockbusters like Mad Max: Fury Road. Which…[Read more]

@emma-flournoy I can say that he was a bad person. But not a bad king. He did some pretty good stuff (I mentioned a few in the previous post). Overall, he was okay. Kind of like our most recent (US) presidents. They lean a little toward bad but overall they weren’t pure evil (think Kim Jong-Un).
But you’re right. We drifted so far from the…[Read more]

@warrioroftherealm My favorite genre is the singer/songwriter genre. Google it, listen to a few (or a lot of) artists, and you’ll find a prevailing style but with different cross overs (usually with pop). However, the overall sound doesn’t normally have a lot of instruments. Sometimes just a guitar and a singer. The thing that ties this genre…[Read more]

@warrioroftherealm Actually I don’t mean repetition in that way. I’m talking about repetition of theme. Take this:
verse 1: God is good
verse 2: God is all powerful
verse 3: God is justBoring!
Although, it’s true it’s still super boring.

@sarah-h Good for you! It is a great movie. I think the strongest asset of the movie is the great characters (combined with great performances). Because the singing is less so. Watch the Broadway 25th Anniversary version. Singing is so much better.

@emma-flournoy Just a quick one because I have to go soon. Let me start from the bottom.
The Bible says that “Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father.” That kind of implies that he did have a heart for God (note the word fully). So that’s why I have the tolerant view of him. I…[Read more]

@emma-flournoy Late reply. Sorry.
I think Solomon was that way because of David. I don’t know of any biblical support for this, but the Bible does record instances where someone’s sin was so bad that their kids suffered because of it. I think Solomon suffered in that way. Not being heretical. That’s just my personal opinion.
From a more biblical…[Read more]

@daeus Eric was the bigger hero. But I think that the fact that they used the other guy’s POV more signifies something. Maybe because he’s a better (multi-dimensional) character?
