I like it! I think the pacing is good. Although, it felt a little redundant with the same status quo shift three times over with the soldiers holding guns. *dies* I’ve never done that for my writing, but my siblings do it for articles they have to read for school and it drives me nuts. Whether they’re reading an emotional death scene or a wonderful love story it’s the same tone for everything. 😂 I’ve never thought of using that for writing, I’ll have to try that out.
