First item for business, that is an amazing profile portrait! Second item is that I am SO sorry for how late I am in welcoming you to Kingdom Pen, (though if you read everyone’s welcome page, I’m late on everything this month I think XD ). But anyhow… I’m not sure if these questions have been asked before and please ignore them if you d…[Read more]

I’m going to have to apologize profusely for being so late in welcoming you to Kingdom Pen! *Facepalms*
Anywho it is AMAZING to have you here Ariel!! And *high fives* I’m also a  100% horse/wolf/hiking/reading/writing fan! 😀 You listen to For King And Country too? That is one of my favorites! Which is your favorite song by them? I have…[Read more] -

Of course! 😀
Yes, NaNoWriMo can really soak up time even though it’s 1,667 words a day. #oofthatsoundslikeachallengeIcanimagine#bestofwriterlywisheswithyourwriting:)
( XD I’m starting to realize how much fun hashtags are).

@gracie-j Ugh, this is such a relatable struggle (and I’m totally going to be stealing everyone’s advice:D)
I’m in the middle of moving at the moment, so pardon me if my reply doesn’t make sense, but the tip that’s helped me the most is something a screenwriting prof. once told me: give your draft permission to be bad.
Now, I haven’t met…[Read more]

That’s really smart! Because some weeks are so much different than others, so there’s no point to being disappointed that you didn’t write a much as some other week, especially if there is just so much going on.
I know right! I love that you don’t have to be fully committed to the long process of writing a full…[Read more]

@joy-caroline Those are definitely similar enough!
I plan on writing all of my fantasy/sci-fi/dystopian/post-apocalyptic stuff under the same pen name, because it’s all fantastical speculative fiction and I have the same recurring themes and focuses throughout (worldview, family, community, etc.). Plus, all of my worlds are connected in some way…[Read more]

@joy-caroline Yeah, I think they’re similar enough. They’re both part of the Christian genre, which I think is broader.

During drafting that sounds a lot like me, 500 words an hour:)
What keeps me from overthinking? Pretty much the thought that I still have many more drafts to go, so that frees my rein and permits me the fun of messing things up and not worrying about it too much. That and deadlines to keep the words flowing and having other…[Read more] -

I’ve never watched Pirates of the Caribbean, but I’ve been wanting to and wait, the characters get married during a fight? I think I saw the fight during a trailer… was it on a ship and they were being attacked by- I’m not sure what they were actually and were in the middle of a storm? Either way, I have seriously got to see this movie!

Thank you for tagging me Lydia!
Well, my MCs are always between the 15-17 age range and I have a tendency to make romances very, very, very difficult for them. The proposals I’ve, like you said, gone over for weeks in my head (I love doing that with scenes btw:) will never make it into the writing itself except for maybe a separate doc…[Read more]

A few times? I take my hat off to you then because it took me much longer than that to figure it out and I had the whole novel’s knowledge behind me XD But yeah, I’ve been enjoying the series (even if I’m enjoying it out of order), and tbh the only reason I’m getting any reading done is because my dog gets me up at about v…[Read more]

@kathleenramm Ah, short stories are really effective! I have a lot started but I don’t know how short or long they’re gonna be just yet…
Recently, I guess has been more of scheduling things and getting my priorities straight. For the past year I’ve just been falling behind on my writing schedule of 5 pgs a day and ending up having to cram…[Read more]

What’s a tip or tactic (small or large) that has helped you recently with your writing?
For me it’s short stories,Recently I’ve been writing at least one short story a month, and it’s really help me with so many things in my writing.
It’s helped me think up creative story ideas more easily, because I have to think of new ones all the time to…[Read more]

1. How do you keep your focus on writing instead of over-thinking?
This one’s already been well-covered. Sprints, and reminders that this is meant to be a mess that you can fix later.
2. How rough do your drafts look?
It depends on the book. Calligraphy Guild, came out extremely neat in comparison to most of my books, but it’s an o…[Read more]

@gracie-j Glad I could help! Be warned, writing by hand has its disadvantages (namely, typing it all out again) but I do recommend it but as a distraction-free method!
