R.M. Archer started the topic Looking for Worldbuilding Guest Authors in the forum Non-Fiction 3 years, 10 months ago
Hi! I’m looking for a few writers who would be willing to write about developing fictional architecture, fashion, cuisine, and language (respectively). I’m prepping blog posts for a section of this year that I’ll likely be out-of-town and I’m finding that I have a lot of posts ideas for the intangible aspects of worldbuilding but I’m not so good…[Read more]

@larchness My fantasy saga consists of thirteen series that are interconnected, so I think it fits pretty nicely XD

@larchness I remember looking at this before. It was very fun.
1. Mine is definitely series fantasy. Other genres that my other things might fall into would be low fantasy, urban fantasy, eastern fantasy…
2. I just write what feels familiar, so no, usually. Sometimes, though, I might say, “I really want write an eastern or wuxia fantasy right…[Read more]

TBH didn’t read the article. But I would say that some Subgenres can be good but that article has way too many in my opinion!
I think u have to limit yourself to just a few, so Portal Fantasy, Historical Fantasy, High Fantasy, Epic Fantasy, etc.
But don’t feel like u have to fit into one. I mean, I feel they’re just there if u want…[Read more]

@larchness This is a good question! Personally, I feel like trying to fit your story into a specific subgenre could be really difficult and limiting. My novel is historical fantasy — kinda. It breaks some of those “rules” because it actually takes place in a different world, but it’s based on America in the Victorian era. I didn’t necessarily…[Read more]

(Side note, but every time I see the title of this topic, my mind sings, “What makes a monster, and what makes a man?” from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, so that’s been an interesting phenomenon. :P)
@devastate-lasting Oh nice! Not too many people have heard of him in my experience. They’re really some delightful games, IMO.

Ah, a fellow coffee lover! *raises mug  Ooh, and a fellow Tolkien admirer? Great! I haven’t actually read the Silmarillion, but I hope to eventually! I was hoping you’d say that about dragons. Dragons are one of the greatest creatures, and especially in fantasy. Hmm, favorite book? That’s a hard one. I have a soft spot for The Lion, Th…[Read more]

I would definitely study the “Dark Ages”. All around the world they were so interesting in different ways, but I couldn’t really narrow it down more than that. I just find that time period so fascinating.
Ah yes, seafaring adventures are so much fun! The novel I’m currently plotting is set in the Golden Age of Piracy (the historical…[Read more]

For sure. My favorite of the Disney re-make books was, ‘The Curse of Maleficent.’ It’s the story of Sleeping Beauty told through the POV of Maleficent and it was really good. I know they made a movie that it was based on, but I haven’t watched it.

Hi and welcome to Kingdom Pen!
I’m pretty new too, but it’s been awesome here! That is so cool that your writing a graphic novel. Sadly, the only ones I’ve ever read was the re-making of Anna Sewell’s Black Beauty and also Svetlana Chmakova’s Brave.
If you like swashbuckling kind of tales, Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson’s Peter and…[Read more]

@larchness Oscar Wilde has some really good stuff; I’ll never forget “The Happy Prince”. Harry Potter’s probably one of the only fantasy series I’ve actually enjoyed, I don’t like that much high fantasy. If you haven’t checked out Bryan Davis’s Dragons in Our Midst series I would totally recommend that! One of the few Christian fantasy books that…[Read more]

Welcome to KP!
I enjoy writing fantasy as well but am doing a sci-fi right now.
I recommend Till We Have Faces and The Space Trilogy (even though it has a spaceship and aliens, it really is more of a interplanetary fantasy than anything else) by C.S. Lewis, Phantastes, The Princess and the Goblin, the Princess and Curdie, and The…[Read more]
