<p>Adapted Gollum quotes aside, I think you can <em>outrage </em>your readers without <em>cheating </em>them. Both can happen in a character&#8217;s death, and cheated readers very often are outraged. &#x1f61b; But you can reasonably outrage a reader without them feeling cheated.</p>
